interesting, that may be true sometimes but i think cards/issuers are coded for scoring purposes so a cu card for example may be 'worth' less than a nat'l card. refering to credit limits higher limits probably indicate a more responsible borrower even w/o manual review.

I've had my Capital One card for three years now and from what I'm noticing, theyseem to be extremely stingy with the CLIs. When I opened my account my limit was $500, and today it's $500. Wtf? Anyone else having this problem? Is there anyone Capital One users here that has actually had a CLI?

Thanks in advance!

I've had mine since 2002. The first time I got an increase, they gave me $200 (which brought me to a whopping $500 limit) simultaneously with an ENORMOUS and unwarranted interest rate increase. I called to tell them where they could put the card, and they lowered the rate back down to 3% higher than it had originally been AND decreased my AF.

I tried twice again for a CLI to no avail. Finally, I called the backdoor number that I found on this forum and was successful. Only another $300, but I also got good information.

The rep. told me to a) keep my income up-to-date with them (it hadn't been updated since I got the card and was about half of my real income) and b) use the card to around 50% each month and then either PIF or almost PIF. After about 3 months, he said another CLI should be no problem. He ALSO said they review accounts "several times a year" and automatically offer CLIs or product changes, but I've never seen that actually happen yet. ;-)

Good luck.

In the end a CLI and decrease of APR and this is after the original CSR's shot me down. oh... first CLI was 3 months in then dead for a year.. I asked 2 times during the year for CLI and they said NO, but they did offer me a new card during that time which took.

I've had my card since 1999 and I've been at $500 the entire time. Yep, that's nearly 10 years, no CLI. Even when I've called and asked for one.

My Util is at about 11.5% right now, and I'm going to wait until everything's paid off in February and called and try again. I'm also going to take to hear what an above poster said in regards to making sure my income is up to date, since I was a poor college kid when I got the card, but income was way less than it is now. And I'm going to ask for an account speacialist. If they still won't give me a CLI, I'll keep the card open, since it's my oldest, but it will also continue to be used very very rarely.

I didn't have a job. It was a $300 dollar limit. Within six months they kicked it up to $500, (which is a joke to me). They haven't done anything since. Doesn't bother me much, keeps me out of trouble.

i used to feel that way, until i found out here, particularly when you have an otherwise unblemished report, a low limit card can make you look significantly more risky and give pause to a prime lender reviewing your credentials. perhaps not a deal breaker type of blemish but who would want to give a lender even a small reason to be nervous in this climate? it's the annoying fly that you wish you didn't have to kill (it has it's crucial functions) but eventually you swat to have peace in your personal space.

I have no way of knowing if it's true but i suspect some ccc's may have something like a 3 strike rule as a corollary to their 'behaviour score card' they sometimes use in evaluating candidates who they see as having a pattern of minor offenses'- like paying only double the minimum due or paying on the due date or revolving a balance for more than 3 months-b4 RJing or otherwise AAing and i wouldn't be surprised if a 'low limit past' qualifies as a strike when they bring a file under review.

Message Edited by score_building on 09-08-2008 08:24 AM

You should only have one crappy low limit credit card, and just for rebuilding purposes. I don't understand people calling in and getting more and more Cap 1 cards and combining the limits...makes no sense at all. Just keep the one low limit Cap 1 card you have FOR HISTORY AND REBUILDING ONLY if your credit is that bad and unable to get a good credit card .....AND THEN a year later apply for an adult card.

Opening and combining...opening and combining....this eventually raises your Cap 1 limit but lowers your score everytime you do it.....so that when the year mark comes, you have a bunch of closed/open accounts and multiple inquiries.... does not look good.

And you are not fooling the other banks out there....everyone knows Cap 1 is a subprime card account...whether your limit is $300 or $3000....it's all the same to them.

Message Edited by Jubeyy on 09-08-2008 01:17 PM
