I had a payment due Sept 9. I forgot all about it, and paid today on the 11.

Is this going to hurt me, will they mark it as 30 days late. Are there any issues, I should be concerned about.

Darn been so good and forgot this one completely.

Unlike other banks, I don't think that they would report this as 30 days. They might well put some sort of whump on you internally, though.

I'd clench any relevant muscles and call them up, and be prepared to grovel.

I'd give them a call ASAP if I were you, and try to pre-empt them doing nasty things to your interest rate, CL, etc. Maybe if you call up and are super-sweet and lovely and lay it on thick about how horribly embarrassed you are and explain that this is totally out of character and so on, and how much you would hate a little slip-up like that to damage your relationship with AmEx, you might just get a nice CSR who can work some magic to stop any Bad Things that might otherwise happen.

Good luck!

Message Edited by fevmlo on 09-11-2008 06:08 PM

Amex is really good about not reporting 2-day late payments to the CB's. I've had a couple of incidents like this before I became interested in my credit, and nothing ever really happened. they may have ratejacked me, though, looking at some of the finance charges on my old statement. i would say that cost me about $80 plus the $38 late payment fees over 3 or 4 months. i got a card conversion to the clear and my interest rate was lowered again, though.

If it's truly only 2 days late, I don't think any cc company can report that as 30 days late to the bureaus. Back in the day when I didn't focus so much on FICO scores I used to pay between 1-29 days late and would only pay once every 2 months on my cards. My "late" payment always included the previous month and the next month. I always had late fees, but not any 30 day lates on my reports...

As the other posters have stated, Amex shouldn't report you as 30 days late.

However, you may be flagged internally for FR, AA, or anything else weird they do they we haven't found out yet.

I would definitely call them and explain the situation. That can't do anything but help.

They will not even charge you a late fee unless you don't nake a payment prior to the statement date.

I hope you PIF the balance and do so each month-

Amex does not report lates until they consider you in default.
