I know there are multiple people that have had the experience of Amex not backdating, and others who have requested replacement cards and saw backdating, but I have a story of a good ol' fashion regular backdating.

I've been teaching one of my employees about CCs and all that I learn on this forum. He has great credit scores and has had an Amex Blue Cash since 2006.

He applied for the Amex Platinum and the Amex Hilton last week, approved for both, received them the other day, and they both say 2006.

So it still must happen, at least in some cases?

But I'll have him look out for next updated report, just cuz...

The dates on the card don't matter. It's the dates on the credit report that we care about. My card from April gave me an open date of 2015.

I think this will take a while for people to get out of the backdating mentality.

AMEX continues to put MSD on their cards which leads many people into thinking their are actually backdating to that year on the CRAs.

My discover card has a member since date too, I assume that would remain the same if i opened a new account. Has nothing to do with back dating, sure would be nice though.

The only backdating that matters is the one reported to the CRAs and Amex has stopped that nice little perk. Printing your original MSD on your card and dis playing it on your account online has 0 benefit to us cardholders.

I know. My first Amex was 1990. I didn't use it much after 2007 and they closed the account positively in 2012. I just opened three new 3 Amex card's and while it says 1990 on my account, I'm certain my report's will state 2015. I'd love the backdating to 1990. Oh well. Too late for me.
