Oops! I spooked Discover.

Moving into a new place and made a $600 purchase from Walmart on my Discover through the 5% cash back Discover deals link. Within two minutes fraud protection emailed me. I called the automated service and I think I took care of all the verification stuff.

I've never had this happen before.. I'm assuming once I put in all my information and verified the purchase it'll all be good, correct?

*ETA* This card is only a week or two old.

Correct you should be fine

Walmart has a lot of fraud issues so a lot of CCC will get jumpy with large purchases wasn't necessarily you

You shouldn't have an issue. Discover has been really good about what I put on there no matter what the price. Once they get to know your spend, you should have no problems using the card. I've normally started out with a low amount and worked my way up. Just to make sure. You will be fine

Good to know. Thanks for the info guys!

We'll probably be making more large purchases and putting rent on cards. Is it a better idea to call before I charge a large amount they're not used to?

Also, did you recently change your address with them due to the move? Maybe that coupled with the WM purchase could do it.

That happened on my first purchase with my IT card. i activated it and went to buy $600 shoes. it got declined and what not had to call. it ended up not swipping that day. went to another store to get them and same thing. ended up getting $75 dollars in statement credit for all those troubles lol

but it has never happened again.

It's normal with any cc. If you buy outside your home address area. As a truck driver I might make a purchase in LA or CA, if it's more than certain amount, normally $100, your cc will be decline. If you call CS they'll fix it for you. If it's less they might let it fly and send you an email to verify that all is OK. Won't matter if you explain your situation to the rep, the computer will do it automatically.. it's a real pain when you need to fuel 100+ gallons of disel every day ...

The issues usually subside once the CC issuers see your trend. I don't travel as much now as I did before, but when I traveled a lot, my CCs rarely declined when I made sizeable purchases outside my home area.
