Its one of the last cards I want so I went for it.

Instead of the Cash+ I got an offer for 2k limit on the cash rewards 1% one. But I already have one of those with a $500 CL. Tomorrow I plan to call and speak with someone about some options....

1) Full recon on Cash+, worth a shot

2) Accept the cash rewards

3)See if I can just use the HP and CLI my current cash rewards card and work on getting that up to the cash+ 5k area.

If I could have my way Id get a Cash+ and a Citi DC combine some Cap1's and id be golden for quite a while

I have had savings/checking and Cash rewards with them for a little over a year. my experian score is 718 util is under 10% AAoA is low not sure exactly

Spoke to one gentlemen, very nice btw. Since I declined the option for the cash rewards with 2k SL initially my application was inactive id need to reapply I confirmed twice that it would not be another HP then needed to call back right away.

I then reapplied, now was only offered 1k on the cash rewards, Ugh. So called back got another very polite gentlemen, Did a quick explanation on the situation and he was very helpful. I was able to get the initial 2k offer from the 1st app and he said he could also use the hardpull to run a CLI on my current cash rewards card with only 500 CL. I ask if I could go for the 5k he said yes and they would counter ,wouldnt that be weird if i got it.

Turns out im an idiot and did wait long enough for my TU report to show some CLI's, he said my highest CL was 3k. When infact I have 10k,3.8k,3k,1.3, not sure that would have locked it up but it may have helped. Lesson learned. Like I said in a later post ill slam some usage and try to upgrade in 6 months.

US Bank is generally tough on reconsiderations, and while some successes have been seldomly reported, they pretty much stick to the original UW decision. Bottom line OP, they would have offered the Cash+ if your profile supported it. The fact that the initial CL was below the $5K threshold for the Cash+ leaves some questions associated with your overall profile.

You can try contacting them to see if it's worth a second look, but it may turn out to be the same outcome. Also, they typically do not use the same HP for the CC application than for requesting a CLI on an existing account - just FYI.

I'm pretty sure they pull IDA or ARS, as well as one of the 3 main bureaus.

They pulled TU from me. I did receive a pre-approved offer in the mail, that's the only reason I applied..

I know it sucks but you can hang on to the cash rewards for 6 months to a year, show a good history, and later upgrade (and hopefully CLI!) to the Cash+. Many have reported that was possible.

Yeah its understandable, I should probably slam some usage through the basic cash rewards.

Is saying "I would like to use a product of yours but the basic cash rewards can't compare to other cards, hence I'd really like to work to see if we can figure out the cash +" Good or bad tactic?

At least you got approved and can upgrade down the line. Its better than nothing. Be patient and you will get the cash+

I really hate how us bank does the cash+... They should give you the option just not to get approved for the cash rewards if they dont want to approve you for the cash+... They obviously do this on purpose as the majority they wont approve for the cash+ and be stuck with the cash rewards, bit difference in cards. The cash+ is a former shell of its old self, but still a decent card.. The cash rewards is well a 1% card. I just took the cash rewards as it was pre-approved. Although in my opinion i should of been given the Cash+ offfer for how long I have been with the bank and they money that gets direct deposited with them per month from me.. Will build 6 months with cash plus give a bit of spend and if not upgraded to cash+ in 6 to 12 months will close it out and never open a card with them again and move my money to another bank.. Will it hurt them, nope.. Will it make me feel better, yep .. Obviously most of us know US Bank is very conservative. Although my situation is different hate the Cash+ -> Cash Rewards bs.. Kinda like Sync Visa for store card crud if they feel like you shouldnt have the visa even with a 770 whatever score.

Well, if its either the cash rewards or nothing, I think most would want the cash rewards. At least you can upgrade later. It beats a straight decline.

To be fair theyre pretty clear on the website that you may end up with cash rewards

I agree, just saying hate cards that downgrade to a lesser tier personally.. I knew I was applying for the Cash Rewards, but others that get downgraded, those are who I feel for.. You very well could of got the cash rewards as well.. Can happen to anyone with stellar credit/income if US Bank so chooses... Sure you wouldn't of been to thrilled either, just saying

And eventually, if you could get them both into Cash+ you'll have double the rewards categories. I WANT THAT.

CreditCuriousity - I have had real good luck going into a branch US Bank and having the Personal Banker help my by actually submitting the required info. In fact the personal banker called (some where) and had a chat. It took two days but she got me the US Bank Cash+ VS and a better Apr than I could get. Did she have influence? All I know is it worked.
