Seems to me that older cards that refuse to grow stay that way. However new accounts seem to start at much higher levels and grow consistently, provided of course you pay on time and have good income, scores, etc.

I agree with the poster above, some older Cap1 cards just do not grow. You would do much better to apply for a new one (Venture or Quicksilver). Check their pre-qualifier and see if either of those cards come up for you.

Also, in case you're not aware, Cap1 now allows us to combine cards into one (you have to do it online - under "Services"). There is a huge thread on this you might want to check out (link below), so maybe if you don't want to app for a new card, you could simply combine the limits on your other 2.

http://ficoforums.myfico.com/t5/Credit-Cards/Capital-One-Credit-Line-Consolidation-LINK-IS-BACK-UP/td-p/4113430

You need to wait 1-2 weeks, not days. They have to assist a large number of customers and they are not as big a team as the customer service people. My Cap One card started as a Plat with $500 limit a little more than 2 years ago and now it is at $8k and upgraded to a QuickSilver.

Also as others mentioned, you can use the new "Combine cards" tool to combine your multiple small limit cards to a larger, more useful limit.

Thank you all for the information, I would like to keep both cards open and raise the limits to 5,000.00 each and I feel with 6 years worth of perfect payment on not only these two cards but also on all my trade lines. However if I have to I will move credit from one card to another but that still won't get me to the 5,00.00 limit. I am just a llitle disheartened that a loyal customer with scores in the 780's has this much trouble getting a hold of a decision maker.

I had a platinum Visa with a 5500 limit from 9 years ago (First card with generous Auto CLI) and recently upgraded to Venture visa sig because i might as well get rewards. They will not raise the limit at all. So I guess it is pretty norm for old old cards. They wouldnt even consider lowering my APR even after 9 years so now Im stuck with a 5500 venture at 22.9%. So I would say no they are stingy with old cards. Keep the old ones for the AAOA of course.
