Amex Oasis... yet another post

Hi All,

I know there are about a thousand posts on this topic, but I'm hoping for some guidance. I just called the 888-232-3261 number to try to take advantage of the Oasis program. The gentleman that I spoke with there told me he couldn't find my account, but to call 800-528-4800. I did so, and spoke with a gentleman who told me that "that program hasn't existed for years", even though I definitely received a letter from them offering the program not too long ago.

Is this one of those situations where I should just keep calling back until I get someone who knows what I'm talking about? Any other tips on how to proceed?

Okay, I am still clueless about this Oasis and what it does... for example say someone had an AMEX way back in 1988, the card went as a CO, but the person never filed a BK, could they get their AMEX card back? Would it report as the original "Member Since 1967" date or a Member Since 2008?

Answer to your first question. Yes. Answer to your second question it would report as 1967. They would also remove any negative inforamtion you might have from the old account. Your CL on the new account would be 1/2 the charge off amount that you pay. After 12 months you can apply and get a regular card. I got the card last December and it is worth getting it back.

How long after your new Optima arrived and started to report did your old negative acct disappear? I joined the Oasis program and received my card earlier this summer. My new account is dated with my original join date, but my old account is still on all 3 reports and listed as a paid CO/derogatory account. Did you have to call and request removal or did it just disappear eventually?

Thanks for all your responses! I've been lurking for a while and not saying much, but I've learned a tremendous amount on these forums and I'll be forever thankful for the knowledge I have now.

An update that everyone (or at least the oasis crowd) might be interested in: when my credit took an ugly turn a couple of years ago was when I entrusted my partner at the time with our household finances and i found out shortly thereafter that none of our bills were being paid. In any case, as soon as I found out I scrambled to get everything up to date, but some things were too delinquent to be saved. I settled on some accounts, and Amex was one of them. I finally talked to someone who actually knew what Oasis was, and she said that I was no longer eligible since my account had been settled. I did pay the remainder of the delinquent balance though and I do plan on having a good relationship with amex in the future. I'll let you all know how it goes...
