My mom was approved for a $300 Credit One card as part of her rebuilding and added me as an authorized user. Buuut I don't really want that card or any other card for that matter, as I'm pretty sure that'd lower my AAoA. Last card I applied for, and got approved was the BBVA Compass and I think I'm good with that for a while or at least until after I lease the car I want.

My question is, can I call and have them cancel my card so it won't show up on my CR or is it too late? She got the approval letter in the mail yesterday.

Have you asked your mother to remove you? That's one option and it will remove from your CR.

Another is you could try calling CO and see if they will, after reading about their cust. Service who knows if it will work properly.

One last option is dispute it on your CR. You simply just contact the bureau's asking for it to be removed since your only an AU and not responsible. But it might report the next month if your not removed from the account completely.

Your mom can terminate you on the card. It will probably still show on the credit reports. You can then contact the credit bureau directly and have them remove AU's with terminated status.

But truthfully speaking, unless you never want to apply for another credit card again, you might as well leave it. Think about it this way, it will be an older credit line than any future credit lines you may add. A year from now, it will be positively adding to your AAoA and future apps.

AND with your short history, this new account will probably only ding you a month of AAoA ... just leave it, credit is a life long journey... a month of AAoA is nothing but you'll eventually get like 10 years of history out of that AU card.

Thank your mom but tell her she probably could have gotten a much better Cap1 card instead of that Credit One card

Really just shows how little most people know about credit - not singling out your mom but just people in general. She probably thought she was helping you by adding you as an AU. I'd venture to guess that most people (not on myFICO) wouldn't know the impact of adding an AU.
