Lowes Card - additional discount for veterans

I recently got the Lowes credit card, and I already knew about the 5% discount for using the card, which is very nice. I just found out a couple of days ago that if you are a veteran and you show them proof, you get another 10% off your order! Here in Pennsylvania, if you are a veteran, you can have it designated right on your drivers license. We bought a garbage disposal, new kitchen faucet and a garden hose, showed them my drivers license, and when it was all said and done, I had saved a total of 15%.

It's really awesome that Lowes appreciates active duty and veterans...and so do I!!

I actually work for Lowe's and didn't know you could stack the discounts. Although I did accidentally trick the computer/register yesterday by allowing a person get 15% + 6 mos financing off by using just their Lowe's card.

I got 10% off for showing I'm a veteran. Then when I swyped the card, I got the automatic 5% discount. I'll certainly be helping your paycheck from now on and let my HD card sit after I am done paying off my riding mower.

Oh yeah I knew about military discount. As long as one has military ID we honor it, just didn't know it stacked.

I've been told no on stacking, that it's either 10% off or 5% off or 6 months no interest financing, but only one at a time. Maybe I can get them to this time, I'm about to put wood flooring down in my house and wouldn't mind the discount.

Interesting - they didn't blink when they did it for me today. I guess a definitive answer would be good for future purchases. Obviously I'd take the 10% veterans discount over the 5% store purchase if it came down to it.

From what I understand, Lowe's discount rules vary cashier to cashier. I've had them give me the 10% moving discount on top of my 5% CC discount, and I've also had them deny me stacking. I've also had them deny me my military discount using my DD-214 even though their website says DD-214 is valid, since I don't have a Veteran's ID card, but at other times, they've taken the DD-214 with no issue. So it's very YMMV, and depends on the manager. Awesome that you found a store that gives it to you, no questions asked.

I am also a Veteran, from the Army, but I didnt retire with 20 or more years. I can only get the Military discount on certain days of the year, like Memorial Day, July 4th, and Veterans's Day. I have to use a DD-214.

I live in FL and we can get a 'V' for Veteran added to our Drivers License as well, but Lowes will not honor that for a discount, and HD is the same. If you dont have a Militray ID card, you have to have the DD-214. Every Vet complains, but they still do it that way. I was able to make a purchase on Memorial Day for an item that was on sale, and then I went back the next day with my DD-214 and they adjusted the bill, but it was still a hassle.

The reason this might be is that for military discounts we do not accept Discharge or Honorary Discharge unless its on Memorial Day or other big holidays. That could be why they wouldn't honor it. I do not know why, but thats just the way it is. They do require a military ID with photo, and as long as you have a Military ID with photo they will honor it without issue.

I would tend to assume the discounts arent "supposed" to be stacked but im sure it varies by manager.

So would I expect it all the time? No, but its nice when you can get it. You know youre getting 5 percent or 10 at the bare minimum if you have to choose one or the other.
