First National Bank of Omaha Amex - Invitation in the mail

Any experiences here with this bank/card? I was mailed an invitation today. Looks nice and just curious what others experiences have been.

From what I've heard they tend to be more "generous" with limits although any "generous" creditor can still give low limits, and their rewards are definitely average at best. Nevertheless, people seem happy with their customer service etc.

I'm just going to run it through the shredder. My scores are trending well and this would cause a step back (yes, I know it recovers later but still).

Good for you. Regardless of whether it recovers later, if you don't need it, you don't need it.

Thank you, I'm working on restraint . I ttruly have more cards tha I need and will strategically plan some consolidation in the summer of 2016.

They can be good for the CL! They are also pretty good about CLIs, either customer initiated or automatic. The rewards are not that great, unless the invite is for the 1.5% card, then it becomes a good everyday card. If it is only for the other Amex they have, then you can later ask them to change the rewards to the 1.5% card rewards. I was successful in doing this, I don't know if they will do it for everyone or how long you might need to have the account open. Mine was opened for almost two years before I asked for it.

They are pretty nice at customer service too. They also give good BT offers at times. They seem to do it a bit differently than other banks. Instead of a BT which lasts for a year or so, they offer a low rate for an unlimited time on the offer. I think they do the other type too, but depending on what your needs are, the unlimited time to pay can be a benefit.

Not a bad card. They have offers throughout the year. Good offers. I'm happy with mine. Using it now.

So I have heard that you can ask for a sp cli every four months... I have only had mine for two months and spend about $500 / mo on the card. Mine is only the 1% card so there is no big draw to use it (I'm glad to hear that you can PC it to the 1.5% card). I have not had to call in so I dont know about CS but all in all I'm happy with the card. I will see how much I like it in about 2 more months.

I love FNBO. They are a bit tricky with approvals generally. But their staff is consistently friendly and knowledgeable. They give decent CLI ever 4-6 months SP you just have to call in. They periodically send BT offers as well. I have no complaints with them.

I've had good experiences both times I've called CSRs but have a hard time finding a place to use the 1.5% cash back card itself. You probably aren't missing much unless you're targeting relationship banks or something.

Yes, IMO the only reason to even consider the card (and decide if that is worth a HP and new account). The letter they sent about deserving more rewards and giving 1% on EVERY purchase ALL the time was just so cheesy! 1% cards have no place now from the point of view of rewards, and even a 1.5% Amex pales compared to the Fidelity Amex. And great customer service on a poor performing card doesn't do it for me! Maybe if you want to get frequent CLIs (whatever value you put on that)
