Fuel Rewards?

I've looked at this several times and I just get confused and give up.

Does someone know this program and can they give me a quick synopsis or correct what I'm understanding?

1) There's a credit card which is related to the program, but you don't HAVE to have the credit card to enroll in the program.

2) You register cards (not just fuel rewards cards, so I could register SM, DC, etc.) and earn credit for some things you normally spend on (dining) but you can also earn more by going through a portal, using special offers etc. (is it Upromise that's kind of like this?)

3) I first learned about it on the main Mastercard website when looking at regular vs. World vs. WorldElite, but you can register any Visa, MC, AmEx.

4) You can stack discounts - There's always a .03 per gallon discount, and anything else you've earned stacks on top.

5) Redemption is via buying gas at Shell (always Shell?)

Besides giving them a bunch of your CC numbers, is there a down side to this? I don't regularly get gas at Shell, but there's one close enough that's sometimes high/sometimes low that I could use the rewards when I've accumulated them. I wonder if they expire quickly? That would be a down side.

CC wise - Like I said I see there's a Fuel Rewards CC which I assume then is basically just a Shell card (but maybe a MC/Visa). In searching there's also something on it with Total Rewards (which if I'm not mistaken they're both Comenity cards). Is there any added benefit with Total Rewards?

I just signed up for this program but have yet to use it. I didn't get the MC they offer however, though it appears it's through comenity because I got a pop-up that I was pre-approved for the MC, but I declined.

It appears you can link any card to it but specifically using mastercards gets you further offers for gas price reductions. You also don't need the actual rewards card, you can use your cell phone number as member number and punch it in when you get gas.

I don't have any shell stations near me but I do have Sonocos which according to the sites map are stations that give the discount.

I'm going to subscribe to this thread because I'm curious what others experience has been and if any tips using the program.

2) I just use my Sallie Mae WMC, which can be registered at Upromise. The points you earn can than be used towards paying your Sallie Mae student loans.

5) I think there's also a Ralphs/Shell program that if you're a member and shop at Ralphs, you earn points to pay a portion of your fuel bill. I think's only a few cents per dollar but it adds up.

Not Plenti. I used Upromise as an example because it's another 'register your card and when you do random things, we'll credit your account' thing. And yeah, I just saw that Ralphs does double fuel credits on the weekends. I might try to take advantage of that. I shop mostly at Vons (a safeway store...Ralphs is Kroger for those outside of the area). I usually use Vons/Chevron, but if I shop at Ralphs and it doesn't matter when, I'll make sure it's on a weekend.

Ron1 has the Fuel Rewards Mastercard so he may be able to chime in if he see this. I am awaiting my Fuel Rewards Mastercard in the mail so I"m still too new to the program to be able to discern the different program elements. Would love it if Ron or someone else who has the Mastercard or knows the program can chime in.

The Fuel Rewards Mastercard is through Comenity Capital.

I just signed up and downloaded the app to see the map for gas pumps. Linked my Master Card...lots of dinning and shopping participating stores. Most of the participating gas pumps are in Los Angeles

That is good if there are a lot of dining and shopping participating stores - I'm assuming you can get points from them and use it toward gas, but still trying to figure the whole thing out.

This app is awesome. I've accumulated $65c per gallon on my next fill up by spending on stuff I normally spend on. About 95% of the places I frequent are on the rewards program, so it's pretty awesome. I didn't have to open a new tradeline for this. Just linked my two MC's up and go about my day.

Sounds great broketiathlete. Can you give us more details or some examples? So, once your card is linked, you just have to review the shopping/dining/gas places int he program so you know which ones are included? Can the points be redeemed for shopping and dining too, not just for gas?

Excited to get my mastercard hopefully soon!

Ah, so the dining is only earning at certain places too (again, sort of like upromise). Good to know. Look forward to hearing more. Will grab app. Can't hurt to check that out.

Overall sounds like a decent deal. I mean, if we can get cheaper gas even if it's only a few cents, that's awesome. Average gallon here in San Diego is $4+ and i only use shell in my car or chevron.

it will take a couple/few months to accumulate a good amount of points based on what/how much you spend, but i think it's worth it.

I hate signing up for more things, but here goes. Seems like a pretty cool program. There are a few Shells in my area that support this. The Shell nearest me is does not show up on the FR map, but the pumps have the FR option so I'm guessing the FR map is not quite up to date.

Now, is the FR Mastercard worth it? It's a Comenity card ...

That's another question. What extra benefits come with the card vs. just using SM with the program.
