Does this still work?

And just to clarify for my understanding, I can apply after 60 days and I'll get a 3x boost even if my CL is 5.5k? lol..

The number of days no longer matters. Check the big amex cli sticky, as this topic has been covered 1000 times.

3x is never and was never a guarantee. Its merely the most you can ask for and be approved for. Doesnt mean you need 3x. You can ask for whatever. Going for the most you can get is not always best.

People have this perception of amex being a magic fairy that gives out 3x CLIs like candy. That is not true and people are declined plenty of times.

Yes, it still works. And assuming you're talking about your first CLI, it is no longer necessary to wait the 61 days.

Not sure if it works, but when i search AMEX 3x CLI, i see a lot of denies and approved lol...who knows. Im assuming is a case by case basis.

You can, but your income and credit profile would have to support it - just like with any lender. If your limit was $5,500 you could ask for $16,500. My opinion though, is that if you're new to Amex and your credit file is thin or iffy (or they start you with a really low limit), it's better to wait a little longer than 60 days so that Amex can see your spending and payment history (like at least 90 days). That's just my opinion though, I know some people can get the 3x CLI upon activation, but not everybody can. If you're one of those who are unsure if you'll get it, why not just wait a little longer?

Yes the 3X CLI works but of course there is no guarantee that you'll be approved. I was recently declined with an EX score of 806. They are cracking down.

For the rest of this discussion let's try to stay on topic and remember to play nice. While I agree that the 3X CLI topic is well discussed the 'main' thread' in CC applications is extremely long and has incorrect information so posting a question here is understandable

Sorry to hijack this thread. I got a 3X CLI on my Amex BCP on 4/3/15. I just applied for and was approved for the Amex SPG, but it only has a $1k credit limit. A $1k credit limit on that card seems silly, as that would at most pay for one night at any Starwood property I would stay at. Can I ask for a 3X CLI on this card, or do the six months between CLIs you need to wait with Amex apply to all of your cards as a whole? If so, do they allow the transfer of credit between two cards?

6 months wait between CLIs no matter how many cards you have. They do allow transfers but there is some rule about the donor card having to be 13 months old.

Oh well. I'll try using it for everything and paying it off in full multiple times a week will get them to raise my CLI on their own. I remember there was something weird when I got the BCP where I couldn't pay it multiple times in a month or something. Does Amex have a rule like that was well?

Back to OP's question, yes, even if your initial CL is $5.5K, you could ask for 3X CLI. I think it's well understood that you may not be approved for the full CLI or any CLI. And yes, you can request earlier than day 61. This could be approved, denied for lack of experience, or denied for cause (in theses cases, you'd have to wait till day 91 to request again).

How long until the BK falls off? I'm not familiar with Amex and BKs, but I know that I was approved for the ED card with 2 collections and several lates showing. Only got approved 1k though. Then tried for the 3x CLI upon activation and it was denied. Waited 91 days from denial (by this time my collections had been removed, but lates were still there) and this time they approved my CLI. So there is hope for those who get stuck with low starting limits! I wish you luck whenever you decide to try.

I did two things today in part due to this thread:

(1) I requested a 3X CLI on my SPG card via the luv button. From $2,000 to $6,000. Approved. Today is the 180th day since the last 3X CLI, which was on my Hilton card. Yesterday, I checked to see how many days it had been since the last CLI, and it was 179. Seeing this thread this morning reminded me that it's now 180, so I went for it.

(2) I transferred some CL from my Hilton card to my Costco card via chat. The Hilton card is 17 months old. My Costco card is 3 months old. It took about 5 minutes. I had to verify the 4 digit code in the front and the 3 digit code in the back of the donating card, and this verification happened right next to the chat screen. A white box slides out to the left from the chat box, and it's all really cool.

I should get rid of the Hilton card but ... I don't want to hijack this thread, so I'll bring that up in another thread or start a new one.
