It depends on the type of points, the card, and (in the case of travel) your plans.

It rarely makes sense to leave cash in the CC account. Counter examples include Cash + where you want to redeem $100 the first time for a 25% bonus, Discover IT where you might be able to buy a gift card at a large discount and others)

On transfer cards, you may want to wait for a bonus (transfer X points to airline Y and get 20% extra) etc

Okay with that being said. Correct me if I'm wrong but you cannot combine Barclays arrival plus points with a Nother Barclays arrival plus account correct. If not what is the best way of going about redeeming those points before the new changes going effect?

Another question I think I've already know the answer to it but you can't transfer Chase freedom points to an airline or hotel partner correct? (Only Chase Sapphire preferred to do that).

Do the Chase freedom points have the same value as a Chase Sapphire preferred if you redeem through the ultimate rewards page?

Both Freedom and CSP points are URs. However, as you noted earlier, you can transfer to partners only with CSP. Similarly CSP offers a special rate when using them to purchase travel via the Ultimate Rewards portal, Freedom doesn't.

I redeemed 8,000 SM points this morning for $80...

Could have let them sit for another week or two and redeemed $100... but why? I've already let them sit past $25, $50 and $75 thresholds... LOL

Whenever I have enough to make them have decent value. I ain't redeeming MR points for .6 cents a point...especially when they could be transferred to delta, and for only 42k points have a roundtrip flight to france....

When you need 'em!

I save my MRs and when I reach 50,000 points, I just think "Oh. I guess that means it's time for DH and I to take a vacation."

If I stay on the track I'm on, that'll be once a year. Not too shabby for free airfare!

Me and you think alike. It's almost time to redeem my Sallie Mae points I'm just waiting on my bonus 5000 points to come through then I redeem them. (15,352 points). It sucks you can't redeem the points for something else instead of the statement credit.

I'm trying SO HARD to get him to care about this stuff. But he's a constantly busy independent filmmaker and just doesn't care, nor does he want to have to think about which card to use. Despite my pleas of "BUT, YOU'RE THROWING AWAY REWARDS!!!"

No. I'm the only points earner. He uses his NFCU cashRewards card and just uses cash back.

I want him so badly to get the CSP/Freedom so he can collect UR while I collect MR. Would make my life so much easier.
