Most cards with rewards on any category over 2% have caps, so that is hardly unique to BOA. The 2% groceries being capped is a bit of a pain, but the 3% gas I totally understand them capping.

Venture One is IMO a terrible card with no advantage over a Quicksilver. Venture One is 1.25% only for travel, QS is 1.5% for anything. There's no contest.

I changed it to Quicksilver visa earlier this year, rather have yet another quicksilver than the ventureone points.

But they did give me my first visa signature, so respect for that. I dont like cards with bad online portals. i have some 5/3 credit cards and earlier this year they allowed payments online finally, but still their website is lackluster and their points system on credit cards is not great, very high Redemption policies.

Other than the sign-on bonus the Venture One makes no sense compare with the QS, but let's not forget there are tons of cards out there that offer standard 1% rewards on everything. People here at myFICO are much more in-the-know about rewards and such but I think 1% still might be the most common reward.

My CU card. Was thrilled to get it, first card to rebuild with. Lousy rewards (score card), HP for anything, they started a cash advance fee. Only redeeming value is fixed rate. But if can get apr lowered on other cards, this will become moot.

Don't know if will get another CU card. They make for great banks and loans, need higher limit and way lower apr to make them worthwhile as emergency card.

As to the sock drawer thing, my CU is now bugging for usage. So it will be the first card on chopping block (even though oldest), because pain in butt to maintain.

Slate: I'm holding onto it just in case, somewhere down the line, I app for another Chase card. Then, I will combine the credit limits. I use it every now and then to keep it active.

Chevron gas card: I keep it because it's an old TL. Their gas prices tend to be higher than other stations in South Florida. Every now and then I use it to make a small purchase to keep it open.

Merrick Bank: I don't use it at all. It was a rebuild card even though I didn't know I was rebuilding at the time. Lol! I was clueless about credit. I will be closing it next month. If it didn't carry a monthly fee, I would keep it open because it's an old TL.

I don't dislike any of these cards. At some point, they all served a purpose in my credit journey.

I don't really care for my Capital One Platinum Mastercard. Once I've had my Quicksilver for 6 months, I'm rolling that other one into it. It was a rebuilder and it served its purpose. But it has to go.

the cards i have that are horrible:

wells fargo platinum rewards - one point for each dollar. pretty weak and i never use it
amex ED - up to 1.2 MR per dollar for general spend or up to 2.4 MRs for grocery but the redemption is super bad. tried through amex travel partners and got lucky to get $1 for 100 MRs. standard 1% cash back cards are better
finally.......

my capitol credit union credit card hosted by élan financial services - you get ONE point for every TWO dollars spend (and they round down btw, not up) and it takes about 30k points to get $100 worth of things. HORRIBLE

Barclaycard Apple Financing. I appreciate them immensely for extending me my first $2000+ credit line when I was rebuilding, but the card is just plain useless to me.

Amex Zync. Again, I deeply appreciate the role they played in my rebuild, but I am deeply disappointed that Amex discontinued what was actually an excellent card for me. Without the "Packs" it's just a Green card with a $25 discounted annual fee. Planning to app for an Amex Everyday soon to finally replace it.

First Premier / Credit One. Credit One was a part of my rebuild, too, but in retrospect I don't think they offered me anything I couldn't have had starting with a secured card and a little patience instead. Wouldn't recommend their predatory rates and fees to anyone.

Anything with Plenti points. Just......no.

Because 1.5% is... better than 1%...

Well, at least 50% better.
