Have you checked out Rocketmiles? I recently got an AAdvantage email to make hotel reservations through Rocketmiles picking up an initial 3000 miles bonus and starting at 1000 miles night, which nicely pads the use of my travel cards. Just got an email about downloading the free Rocketmiles app.

Yes, it is good to use for when staying at hotels where you do not want/need points in the hotel program or don't have status with. Always check the prices though for those hotels with other sites. Sometimes the markup can be substantial.

Yes, this past weekend I stayed at the Royal Sonesta in Houston thru Rocketmiles and earned 1k miles plus 5k bonus miles. That's 6k miles toward my Hawaii awards ticket.
