Do you have to pay off your balance every month with an American Express card? I remember someone told me that you have to pay off. Is that true??

You must pay balances in full every statement period with charge cards. The Amex Green, Gold, Premier Rewards Gold, and Platinum cards are all CHARGE cards.

Every other american express card is a credit card, which allows you to carry balances over, month to month if you choose.

Charge cards also have an option to carry elligible charges over $100, at an 18.9% interest rate. terrible deal, and you must activate it.

Only if you get one of their charge cards. But I find it a healthy habit, even if I don't have any of those
