Capital One Consolidation...Sucks

So I've been trying for over a month to combine two of my three Cap1 cards, everytime I try it says not eligible. Of the 3 cards only one has a balance, none of them have ever been late, and the two I'd like combined have been open for years. Every time I ask someone there they say I can try as much as I like without affecting my credit score or account...what about my sanity? Ugh just when I thought Cap1 was coming around...guess not.

Were they all originally CapOne cards, or were any of the ones you're trying to combine formerly with another bank?

I have read that people have been unable to combine cards when one or more was previously with HSBC or WAMU or similar.

I read that as well...mine were all original Cap1 cards. The oldest is coming up on 5 years.

Thats weird. Im planning to consolidate mine in the spring and I hope its working better by then. Did you ask for a supervisor or just speak to the frontline CSR?

Thanks for the info Gigeon, I was planning on combining my QuickSilver CL with my CP1 Platinum card and then closing the Platinum. The Platinum was originally a Sears MC so it looks like I'll be SOL?

Frontline CSR so far, nobody there is really any help. They all repeat the same thing you can try as much as you want without affecting your credit score or account...blah blah blah. Its irritating because I have 2 QS1's and a QS Visa Signature card, having them all pulled into the Siggy would be amazing but I see it more of a pipe dream than actual functioning feature of their site.

I'm with you on this. I've been unable to combine my two Quicksilver cards online after 100+ attempts, so this morning I called in. At first the guy didn't even know what I was talking about -- he thought I was asking to link a card to my online ID. After explaining to him what it was, he conferred with his manager. They said it might take a while as they looked into it and said they'd call me back. He called back in 30 minutes and said I couldn't do it because one of them was a converted HSBC card. After 3+ years of being a CapitalOne card it sits there with a limit of $1,100. I think I'll probably just close it down soon. It has served its purpose in helping me rebuild but I've moved on to bigger and better things.

I also asked aobut a possible PC to my other Quicksilver card. It's always been CapitalOne but it may have started out as a Platinum and been PC's already to a Quicksilver. Anyway, I've used it a lot of the last year or so and the CL has increased from $1,500 to $3k to $9k and now today to $16k. I asked about converting it a Signature Visa or WMC or WEMC. He said no, that if I want one of those I have to apply for it separately.

Probably. One of my wife's three CapOne cards was originally a Sears card, and she's been unable to combine it with either of her other two. Best of luck to you but don't get your hopes up too high.

It does! After reading the other posts in this thread, I just now tried to combine accounts yet again and yet again was told that my accounts aren't eligible. So I called customer service only to be told that the rep doesn't know why my accounts couldn't be combined and to just try periodically. This is so frustrating! I have a card with a low balance ($750) that I'd like to add to my Venture's balance and eventually do the same to my other cards as well. I'll keep trying, but eventually,if it still doesn't work, I'l just have to close the account along with my Plat MC (2,250CL). These are helping with utilization, but Cap1 hasn't given me any increases on the $750 card. I've gotten increases on the MC, but it has no rewards, and I'd rather not have all these Cap1 cards. I'm working on improving my credit and hope to have lines with better companies.

As an added note, in the 'big thread' there's at least one person (I can't remember who) that had accounts that were formerly HSBC, and he/she was able to successfully merge it/them into another account.

It appears there's an information vacuum with the Capital One CSRs regarding this feature. I'm still baffled why Cap One would offer a feature to the end-user (us) but not allow the CSRs to have access to that same feature. I can only imagine the calls they've received due to various glitches, and it would have gone a long way in keeping customers happy to just empower the CSRs to step in and manually merge the accounts when the automation fails.

My recommendation is to just keep trying... there are folks on the other thread who got the error message at first, but were eventually successful.

I agree I am super annoyed with the service. I was super pumped when they rolled it out.

I have 3 cards with 0 balances for over statements. I have never been late. They are orginal capitalone cards, opened 3-5 years ago.

It says, I am not eligable for it.

Hi. Sorry I didn't see this older post. I was able to bully my way to a cap one website tech. She found out that one of my cards name and address on it did not match the other two. Didn't have my apt number and middle initial. So she fixed them and I waited 72 hours and I was able to combine. My hsbc card converted to cap one and mc visa all are able to be combined. Hope this helps

I was able to combine my two platinum accounts (one was formerly an HSBC) into my Venture One. So, the converted cards can be done--- just to add a datapoint. No luck on DH accounts though.
