You can try. I've always been able to waive my AF's or receive miles equal to the AF on all of my cards except for the CSP. My AF also hit this month, but I downgraded the account to the Freedom. No retention offer available. I had no use for the CSP anymore, and I didn't see the point in paying the annual fee.

Well, there IS that tactic of calling in, asking to cancel, getting the retention department, and hoping they don't call your bluff. If they do, though, that will put you in somewhat an uncomfortable position.

If the benefits you are receiving from the card are worth a $95 AF, I'd go ahead and pay it and not give it a second thought. After all, it isn't meant to be a AF-less card.

No harm in doing this. I have not heard of chase outright waiving the AF on this card If they say there are no offers then you do not need to close the card right then and just say you want to think about it. Then you can assess if its worth it for you to pay the AF. An alternative if there is no retention offer may be to downgrade to the CS which is no AF. You would not be able to transfer your points to travel partners (so if you have a redemption to make to travel you may not want to do this or you will want to transfer to a travel partner before downgrading, unless you have another transfer card like the ink cards) with the CS there are fewer benefits.

It never hurts to try but be careful in what you say to the CSR since they might get trigger happy and go and close your account and not think twice about it. I don't think I've seen a lot of people get the CSP waived but it never hurts to ask. If you're not making full use of the card, maybe downgrade to regular Sapphire or PC to Freedom?

EDIT: derp, you have Freedom already, maybe you can PC to Slate and get the awesome sauce FICO dashboard?

You never know if in the future if you may need a 0% apr card, so its best to keep the option to pick up those cards for their 0% apr offers available for the future. Since you have the freedom then I would recommend the CS if you decide to downgrade. Don't worry too much about the reps getting trigger happy and closing the account. You just need to be clear that you are considering closing the account, but wanted to know if there any offers on the account first. Then if the answer is no you can ask them about PCing the card. I wouldn't mention the PC option until they tell you if there is an offer or not. If you do get an offer and you are not sure if you want it don't feel pressured. Just say you need to think about it and then take some time to do the math to see if you want it or want to take an alternative route. If you do decide to close the card see about moving your credit line over to another card first.

Retention offers on CSP are quite rare. You likely will just have to downgrade if you decide you don't want to pay/can't justify the fee.

If the annual fee is worth it to you, I would just pay it and move on. I went through something similar, but decided to downgrade. However, with the new application "rules", I realized that my UR points would be in lymbo for years at a time, since I do not have another card to transfer points out with. Ultimately I had to go through some hoops just to get the CSP back.

Alright, let's not get all worked up over an AF...if the OP doesnt want the AF, by all means call and try to get it waived...regardless of the methods he/she uses, we're no one to judge; his/her life his/her choice and card

All OP was asking is if he could waive the AF, if he can do so using his methods, hey, he/she is not commiting a crime.

You can not apply for it directly anymore though.
