AMEX Oasis Optima APR Reductions?

Anyone have any luck getting the APR reduced on an AMEX Optima from their Oasis rebuilding program? Obviously, I'm asking in terms of after the 1st 12 months of having the card.

IIRC, the Oasis Optima card is part of the AMEX re-entry/rebuilder program so it does not offer the flexibility for a lower APR. In some cases, although rare, it can qualify for a CLI.

After having the card for 12 months, I was instantly approved for a 3x's cli on my Optima card.

Right, the CLIs do happen but they're not a frequent occurrence for some individuals. You can try contacting them about the APR but AFAIK they don't typically lower (unless their policies have changed recently for that particular card).

Not all but some have had to close the card first then app

And since backdating isn't a factor anymore .....doensn't hurt

How does your credit profile look otherwise?

Maybe you apped just a LITTLE too soon? How long after hitting your 1 year mark did you apply?

I applied for another AMEX 13 months after I had the Optima, and yes, I was instantly approved. Not only that, but I also requested, and was given a 3x's cli on my Optima.

Amex recently changed their policies where you can apply for another Amex product or CLI after 12 full months without having to close your Optima Card.

You probably applied just before the full 12 months, like Repairman mentioned. I would try again.

I would call Amex and ask about a rate reduction. I doubt they would at this time because its a re-entry card, but you never know.

Good to hear it was a SP and they did a 3x CLI. This points to the fact that Amex is making the Optima Card less and less of a "step child" card.

Hopefully they will allow for APR reduction, product change, and entry into membership rewards in the near future.

Wow this is very dishartening. I was told that I could apply for a new card without closing my Optima. I don't ever want to close mine because it is one of my oldest cards. The only one that I have that's older is retail( JCP). Hoping you just got bad info dozzer99. Did you try calling back to talk to someone else?

@Anonymous can apply for another card product after 12 full months without having to close the Optima Card. I think @dozzer99 applied just shy 12 full month and thats why he got the message or he could have applied before Amex changed their policy.
