Never had any issues with Barclay, routinely make 8-9k payments. Once you have an established pattern then there's no hold.

Anyone else had their payments held by Barclays? I paid off a $3,488.48 balance on my Apple Rewards card over a week . I logged into my Barclays account on my phone as I was leaving work, and I saw my availabl credit was only $11.52.

I know lenders can sometimes get nervous when you make large payments, so I called customer service when I got home. I asked the CSR how long my payment was going to be on hold. She came back with September 23rd. I told her that was unacceptable. I had never made a late payment, always paid more than the minimum, and had never bounced a payment. Plus Barclay's had already pulled the money from my account days ago.

She got a supervisor for me, and they were able to release the hold on the credit limit. I know I was being pushy with the rep, but It's psychologically satisfying to see that zero balance with all that available spend

I made a payment of about $2700 on my Arrival+ a few days ago and it posted one day later I believe, even before the money came out of my bank account.

I recently made an $8,000 payment on my Aviator Red to clear out the remaining balance from when I funded that Citigold account a few months back for $20,000. No issues whatsoever and limit cleared as soon as the payment went through.

I've only ever had that problem with Capital One.

You did what I would've suggested by having a higher up look into releasing the funds since the payment cleared the bank.

Honestly I think it comes down to payment patterns. Lenders like to see how you pay and get comfortable with it before releasing the available credit. After a while of payments and they get used to your tendencies, usually those holds go away.

Back when my QS1 was still HSBC/Orchard, my credit limit was quite low, and many times I would make multiple payments a month. I quickly figured out that when I used the HSBC 'Make a Payment' option, they would generally hold my payment if it was a large percentage of my credit line (which was easy to do back then). However, when I used my bank's bill pay to 'push' the payment, there was never a hold.

You can guess how I made my payments once I figured that out.

As a side-note, since my card converted to Capital One, I have made large(er) payments a few times directly from Capital One's website, and there was no hold, so either they've grown to 'trust' me, or they're not as concerned since with a larger credit line the payments are "relatively" not as significant as they once were.

I agree, though, that it is annoying, especially if you have a perfect payment history (like I did/do as well).
