Im a bit miffed about the misinformation from chat reps! Months ago I asked about consolidating cards. I even saved a copy of the chat to make sure I could refer back to it. The rep stated whatever card I was transferring limits to had to be at least 12 months old and the cards the limits were coming from had to be at least 60 days old. Gave me a date of November 13th, cool. Asked again today for clarity since November is coming up and this rep apologizes but tells me I was given the information backwards! Awesome. So here I am sitting around waiting on November to transfer the business limits to BCE and close those cards but now the business cards are the ones that have to be at least 12 months old. I'll be closing these in the next couple weeks I'm not waiting around for all that. Geez what a cluster**** of nonsense. Once again I fail to see how Amex was ever #1 in customer service I still havent witnessed any examples of this since I opened my first card nearly a year ago.

Anywho thats it for my rant lol Still in a fairly good mood, almost Friday, life is pretty sweet.

Secondary Issue (not important just extra Amex data from today):

Attempted a 180 (really 182) increase on BCE, denied. Not particularly upset about it but I find the denial reasons a bit silly. Now if they werent comfortable extending me more credit or stated I barely use the limit I have now that I would have understood but those didnt make it to the denial list.

FICO Score: 733, which is about 60 points higher than when I was approved for the card

Too many Inquiries in last 6 months: No more than 4 on EX in this timeframe

Amount of Loan Balances Too High: 6k in student loans, DEFERRED plus a Lease amount around 6.5k which is paid down monthly

Monthly payments too low in relation to debt: Umm I dont get it. My overall util is 6%. There is a $0 balance on ALL my Amex cards and the only cards with balances reporting at the moment are Discover & Slate. Both of which get payments well over the minimum each month.

That and the might feel they've given you enough credit at this time (of course they should just say that!).

What I am a bit miffed about is the misinformation from chat reps!

Something similar happened to me recently. I got approved for the Amex Delta Gold card at the beginning of August with a SL of $4600. I tried for the immediate CLI upon activation, was denied, so I figured no biggie I'll wait the 91 days and ask again.

Not even two weeks later Delta emailed me a bonus offer for the Amex Delta Platinum that was too good to pass up. I apped and was approved for a SL of $1400. I often charge $800 at a time on hotels alone for work, so that wouldn't leave much wiggle room. I called customer service to see if they could match or at least come closer to the CL on the Platinum to other cards I had recently been approved for: $5k for Citi AA Plat, $4600 Amex Delta Gold, $4.9k for Discover, etc. She said they couldn't increase the limit on the Platinum at this time, but instead she offered to reallocate an amount of my choosing from the Gold to the Platinum right away. Having read around here their policies of having to wait x number of months, I asked "Can you really do that?" She said yes, just give it 7 - 10 days to process. Since my plan was to SD the Gold after meeting the spend bonus anway, I said sure let's move $3500 from Gold to Platinum.

Two weeks later nothing has happened so I asked about it on chat. They said I have to call a certain 1-800 number to ask about that. I called but hung up after about 15 minutes with no answer and just called the number on the back of the card. I got in touch with a rep fairly quickly but he said he needed to transfer me to a specialist. Well, after almost 30 minutes and three failed transfers later I finally get to speak to the specialist. She proceeds to inform in no uncertain terms that she will not be approving my request for reallocation because their policy says I have to wait 13 months. I told her I didn't request anything, an offer was made to me and I accepted it. She didn't care. I asked to speak to a supervisor, she claimed they were all unavaible but one would call me back right away at a number of my choosing. Almost 24 hours later and of course I haven't heard a peep.

So I gotta agree with HeavenlyFlower here. Customer service seemed great when they were offering the perfect solution to my problem. Too bad it all turned out to be bullcrap and they gave me the runaround. Would have been better getting a flat no, wait 60 or 90 days and ask for a CLI then.

I have only had one of my Amex cards compromised once, but they called me before I even had a chance to notice the fraud (2 gas charges in a city I have never been to though I have often driven by. That Amex card (the Costco one) is also my default gas card so the fact that they caught that is pretty remarkable and with pretty much zero trouble to me I had credit for for those charges. My BofA card had the same charges from the same gas station, and they took more than 2 months to resolve, and I was the one that had to call in and keep calling.

We need to step back and really assess what your true situation is:

You needed to spend $X on the Platinum over probably 90 days to get the extra bonus. Any original bonus, and regular miles earnings on both the Gold and Platinum Delta cards go to exactly the same place, a single Delta SkyMiles account.

Yeah, the Platinum spend bonus may push the $1,400 initial limit on that card, but that's a temporary situation. So you just need to pace the spend and payments on the Delta Platinum to get through that.

Once you get through the Platinum Delta spend, SD the Platinum Delta card and just use the Delta Gold card if you want. All the spend on your related Delta Gold and Delta Platinum cards will count toward the annual Delta Platinum MQM earnings, in your SkyMiles account, so you don't actually have to directly use the Delta Platinum if you have a Delta Gold. I had both for a time in 2014, so this is from direct experience, and reading the fine print in the terms and conditions of the Delta Platinum card.

Then, after the year is up, you can move the limits off the Delta Gold to the Platinum if you so desire, close the Gold, save that annual fee, and move forward with the Delta Platinum.

Takeshi while I appreciate the way you come and break down/critique nearly every thread you post on to death Im not getting into all this much ok. I'll give answers for data purposes and thats about it cause Ive said multiple times now the increase denial is NOT a big deal. Ive also stated Amex has the right to deny me whatever they wish.

#1 - not relying on "oversimplification" have read here many, many times that Amex was considered #1 in customer service, simply dont see how this occurred based on MY experiences. What I think is Im entitled to my opinion based on my relationship with a lender like anyone else here.

#2 - Last time, not worried about the actual denial and have said I totally accept that Im not entitled to an increase but that doesnt mean I cant feel like the listed reasons are silly. Not enough usage, not comfortable providing additional credit at this time, too much available credit compared to income, too many new accounts in the last year etc would have made perfect sense to ME. But again they can do whatever they wish.

#3 - idk what exactly you want *clarified* but there are 13 inqs total on EX, 3 or 4 in the last 6 months, 6% util, no baddies/negatives, income 63k if I include support, 54k if listing employment only

#4 - the balances are exactly what I put above. Two student loans totaling 6k in deferment - 0% once payments start, one lease with 6.5k left from about 6.8k total which started reporting last month - payments are $165 monthly $180 with taxes

Mkay Im done with this now! Enjoy your day everyone

Yeah, no duh. That's what I'm going to do because I have to, and that's fine. As I mentioned earlier, I did not try to reallocate limits. It was something that was offered to me by Amex. I even asked, "Can you really do that?" She assured me she could. That would have been a great compromise and all it would take was an exception to a policy that's kind of silly in the first place. They're not granting me any more credit, they're just moving it from one account to another. That's the first thing I found upsetting when I would have been fine being told no CLI at this time, try for one in 60 or 90 days or whatever.

Second, the 'specialist' from the UW department was rude and lied to me at least twice -- first telling me she couldn't see any notes on the account from the CSR, then that no supervisor was available, then that a supervisor would call me back which they never did.

I got unnecessarily jerked around by three different reps, and that's not what I would expect from a company with a reputation as #1 in Customer Service. I called back in 24 hours, got through to a supervisor, and was completely satisfied with our conversation.
