What were your balances or utils on both cards when you combined them?

I have 2 Capital one accounts that I want to combine. I was thinking 6 months from now when the balances are lower.

Cap1 - 2500 bal 2400 (19.90% no AF) ......this started out at 500 w/AF
Cap2 - 500 bal 400 (14.15% w/AF)

I have had both since 2006, would it be better to wait the 6 months or try to combine now ?
Message Edited by niecey89 on 10-08-2008 03:20 PM

Don't think this will help much, but I when I combined mine I had 3 all with 0 balances.

As far as waiting to combine, the only downside I can see is paying the extra interest on the $400. But then again, if your AF hits before you transfer, that may make up for it. Your utilization will stay the same so you don't have to worry about that aspect at all as far as I can tell.

Thanks JR2475, I have been contemplating for weeks if I should call them or not. I am afraid they will say no or pull another inquiry on my report (as you can see by my scores, I do not need that). I have been paying them on time every month.

ok there is the update they combined the account to the one with the lower APR and *bleeping* AF. They did not give me an CLI which i am ok with. at least i will have one bill from CAP1. So now my my credit as follows: (do not yell at me MODS)

Walmart 19.87% $330 (received letter 10/20/2008 about CLD of $80..was $410) - bal $187
Target 20.99% $ 200 bal $148
Capital one 14.15% $3000 Bal $2811 (just combined 10/20/2008) AF$29
Upromise Citi 14.99% $2800 Bal $2585
Orchard Bank 14.90% $500 bal $300

Ikea 19.90% $300 bal 0
Children's Place 21.96% $250 bal 0
Avenue 22.80% $470 bal 0

Yes I know i have high balances, but the ones under $300 will be paid off by the end of the year. The High Balance ones will get a big payment at tax time. I do not carry my cards with me unless i really need them. All of these accounts are paid on time and also over paid $5-10 depending on budget. I feel better now that i combined the CAP1s into one account.
Message Edited by niecey89 on 10-20-2008 09:54 PM

The backdoor number is definately useful. I called today and combined the new card ($750 CL, 0AF, 0% APR until Oct 2009) with the old card ($1100 CL, 39AF, 14.15% APR).

So I got rid of the AF and have a pretty good interest rate for the next year and I think after that it is still 12-13%.

They say it takes up to 14 business days for the process to be completed then I would get a confirmation in the mail....
