Hi guys, Im new to these forums but im been reading alot. I been contemplating wether or not to apply for a chase freedom card, this past week i got approved for a discover it with a CL of 1000 and ive had a BOA cash rewards for 11 months witha CL of only 500.

I think the reason BOA hasnt bumped up my CL its because i use my card alot and sometimes i went over the CL but i always paid it before the statement close. One time i did forget to make a payment for a balance of $22.

Not sure if i shoud apply or not, i would like to add another card so i can build the credit right as im fairly new to credit 1YR.

Thanks in advance .

Actually i have never inquired my fico scores guys, i just now started getting serious about credit.

my only two inquiries have been the original BOA card 11 months ago and this discover one thjis past week. As far as i know i dont have any collections and no other debts.

I will be able to monitor my Fico once i start getting statements with discover.

This is why my advice should help you. The Discover IT card has more benefits than the Chase Freedom does for the rest of the year. Maybe wait until Jan 2016 to get it. And by then do a Credit Line Increase with Discover IT and get 1,500 to 3,000 or so limit. And after that you should wait until both your cards statements cut and then apply for the Chase Freedom hopefully that'll get you a better starting limit.

I agree, if you have Discover, there is basically no reason to get a Freedom at the moment. Wait until 2016.

keep in mind too the discover can grow. the chase most likely won't so whatever limit you get with the freedom you'll basically be an elderly person with that same limit lol. 80% of people i would guess don't ever see a CLI from the freedom. i would take advantage of what discover is offering for the next 12 months and maybe see about the freedom then. if you want options maybe go with barclay

Try a Capital One card. If anybody grows with its customers, it's Cap One. You could probably get the no-AF Quiksilver, check the prequals. And there's a great number I can PM to talk to an analyst about getting an increase with BofA if you'd like. They helped me grow from a $500 rebuilder card to an $8,000 cash rewards visa signature in 8 months

Don't want to be the elephant in the room, but for Chase, a little more history and experience with credit generally means 2+ years. With very 'thin' credit files like yours, it's possible, but expect high APR and a low limit.

I would wait on Chase for that reason. Like previously stated, you will be stuck with your agreement with Chase for a long time.

Cap1 will grow more with you as you establish credit history. They have products geared more for fair, young credit profiles.

Once you have built a better file, go for the Freedom if that's what you really want. A bit better limit will help your utilization and be more usable than just
a toy limit.

I have above 740 scores and I'm waiting on apping for the Freedom/CSP combo because I want the lowest APR and highest limit with them when I apply. I have even had accounts with them for about 3 years. Now I find that I may be wasting my time on it as I am finding the future benefits lacking. Long story is, hopefully, I won't need diapers for a few more years. Plus a few other reasons.

Over the years though, my Discover IT card, QS and Venture have all grown to over $10,000 limits.

But, as in all things, you need to do what's best for you. Good luck.

Definitely wait on Chase. I will echo what is stated above: once you apply and get that limit and APR, the majority of the time that's it. You're stuck with it. They never budge on APRs and are not big on CLIs. Not that you never can get an auto CLI, but it's pretty rare. Requested CLIs are a HP and often not worth it based on the results I've seen

.

The point is: get your profile in the best shape it can be before going for a Chase card, because they are pretty inflexible about improving your terms down the road without having to reapply.
