Any suggestions please for getting Cap1 to increase my current CL?

I really like my Cap1 No Hassle Miles Platinum MC, b/c it provides me with 2% rewards, no AF, and is redeemable for travel and airfare purchases, together with a relatively nice interest rate. However, I have been trying since forever to have them increase my CL on it, which is currently $1,000 (had an initial SL of $500, and since the CLI to $1,000, have had no luck in terms of any CLIs). I have been hitting the SP luv button nearly every day or every other day to see if they would give me a CLI, especially since my credit scores are now higher at 695 (EQ), 691 (TU), and 685 (EX), but still no dice Also tried calling in a CLI over the phone, but no luck there either. Does anyone have any advice or suggestions please, on if there is anything else I can do to hopefully get a successful CLI, from Cap1? Right now my util on my open cards is 27%.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I thought some posters on here had recently mentioned that the Cap1 EO phone number had been phased out though?

Sorry about your luck OP. I have read lots of people that have a hard time upping their older Cap 1 limits, but then apply for a new Venture and get a huge limit. I'm not saying you need to apply for a new card but that would be an option. With your scores being significantly higher than mine you should do well. However I've historically have had an average of less than 2% report, and rarely (1-2) times report 8%. Utilization isn't remembered, but I'm sure Cap 1 has taken note.

Interesting data point. My coworker has a lot better scores than me (similar to yours) but has 59% utlization. She got a $5K Venture and $3K Venture 1.

Have had it since about 2012, except for a brief period when it was closed (later re-opened by EO, during 2015, when I was able to get them to permanently eliminate the AF). It was an older-product card that preceded the Venture and Quicksilver that I got I think right about when Venture was first being rolled out, kinda like the Citi Forward in a way I suppose, but I think the closest card in Cap1's portfolio that comes close to it is the Venture?

I don't know if u make multiple payments a month etc but let a high balance cut say 400+ then pay it seemed to work for me with an auto cli on a freedom card last month. If your util goes high they might deem that a reason for a cli. I think this option would be better than running 800 thru the card in a month and paying 200 a week off of it

Agreed. They typically reward lots of swipes / usage has been my experience. Also we have seen many folks that are unable to get a CLI on current Cap1 cards but get approved for a new Venture or QS with a nice limit. Check out their pre-qualify and see what they tell you..

Curious as to what people think as to what matters more to cc companies? If I spent 1k a month would they rather see 2 swipes for 500 or 50 swipes for 20$?

Stevez333 it doesn't matter as long as you use the card heavily. However $1K a month is really good to the cc company wether it's one or multiple swipes. Good question.

I myself charge $3K-$4K a month on all my cards but that's is because I pay all my bills every expense on the card. I pay my water bill, car loan(it's my parents car but I use my credit card for rewards and for usage and my parents give me $$$$ of the payment amount so it is like a free cash advance) cable, cell phone, exc I even use my credit card to purchase items at my job and company pays me the amount used. Capital one quicksilver visa is still at its SL $3000 HAD IT FOR almost 3 months

Perhaps they have some internal policies regarding this specific product? Since at the higher redemption amounts it is effectively 2% back and no AF, perhaps they would prefer that this get moved to a Venture with an annual fee...

I don't know, but they may prefer to let this product die on the vine and hope you apply for a Venture with a usable limit, albeit higher APR and AF of $59.

CCC like to see reasonable usage, not up to the limit either contrary to what people think. They also like lots of swipes.

Try decreasing your usage and see what happens, LOL..If you're using it a lot, do the opposite! They might notice the decline in usage and finally bump you.

I feel your pain OP. I tried to get my old Cap One Platinum's limit increased with no luck. I apped for a QS 3 months ago and tried several times after 60 days with no increase. I then apped for a Venture and low and behold after having the Venture for only a few weeks and passing the 90 day mark on the QS. They gave me a $400 CLI on the QS tonight. lol

Capital one does some odd things. But they sure give terrific SL's on some of their cards!

If you want a real nice limit, I'd app for the Venture and maybe throw the QS in there as well. Hopefully all on the same pull.

The main reason that I want to keep this card -- and if possible, extend on the current CL -- is because it is really the only true travel-redemption card in my portfolio. Also, I'm kinda not a fan so much of the higher APRs that most travel rewards cards (including those of Cap1's present card products) offer, whereas this card has a lower-than-typical APR for a rewards card, plus the 2% rewards along with no AF. The go-to APRs alone of the Cap1 Venture and QS that can be obtain right now are an incentive of sorts for me to keep this older-generation/discontinued Cap1 card.

That's actually what I'm currently trying to do, at the moment -- keeping balance at or near-zero, in the hopes they will come around

I got 10K on venture and 3K on QS Visa(regular) on 8/8. and 5K on Venture 1 on 9/10.

My 2 1/2 yr old QS1 is stuck at 2500. go figure......
