Check your CABELA's CC!! Mine just had FRAUD!!

Im on the phone right now with them!! My first time to be a victim of CC fraud, and Im PISSED!!!! My card was used in NY, I live in KS! After being transferred 3 freaking times!!!! to fraud then to Supervisor, to get it straightened out...still on hold!!!!! They told me my card was PHYSICALLY used at 3 places.. PHYSICALLY??????? I have a new chip card!! How it that possible????

They said fraud picked it up finally, but it was too early to call me about it. TOO EARLY????? Its now 1pm where I live..IM PISSED!!!!!!!! Not worth the measly $1k limit to even have this card!! What kind of operation are they running over there!??

I havent used my card since the 8th, and since on their website is so LAME that you cant see "pending charges", I didnt know until just now, that 2 charges went thru on the 20th in NY, and 2 were declined.

They made me feel like I was the one who did these charges, and Ive never in my life have been treated like that... Acct is now now closed, and they are sending me a new card, which I have a right mind to not activate, and send them a letter to close it. The 1k cl is not worth it too me, and I dont need it anyways. They are sending me paperwork to fill out, and they have to "investigate" the charges since it was used physically. what CRAP!!

Relax. This could happen with any card. The card is cancelled and youll get a new one and everything will be fine. Dont close the account on impulse (though certainly if you want to consolidate I applaud that).

The more accounts one has, the more they have to monitor. Its one of the downsides of having a lot of cards.

Funny, I never had issues with my store cards, LOL!! BUt, I guess youre right, Im just upset, I feel SO violated!!! And then the way they were treating me on the phone, I was like...Lady, I used my other 3 cards ALL over yesterday where I live, I havent used your card since the 8th. How can I use it with such a low limit?! LOL..

Ill probaly steam about this for awhile..

Sounds like a credit card skimmer was used to make a counterfeit card if you swiped your card, but you said you have a chip card. This made me look at my card and I don't have a chip card -- yet. Sorry for your troubles.

Pizza, sorry for your troubles. I had similar situation with Amex long time ago, there were few charges posted in FL, about 1000 miles from where I live and fraud prevention rep was telling me that "card was physically swiped'', card was in my possession at all times. How did they "physically" used it still remains mystery to me...

Glad you noticed fraudulent charges quickly, hopefully problem will be solved in no time.

Chip only protects when all places require chip (which might be never!) If it really was a physical card (and who knows if that is true!) it could be a clone of the mag stripe and used at a normal swipe card reader.

But in general this sort of thing happens all the time. Yes, the CSRs shouldn't be rude, but they also have to do due diligence to make sure that these really weren't your charges that you are trying to write off. (Aren't you that person who keeps posting on the strange credit card site, myfiko or something, obviously can't be trusted!) And while you should never make closure decisions in anger, bad CS and low CL is a good reason to close!

(sighs)... I noticed something odd on my account last night, my balance was $398.51 like it should be, and my payment was taken out of my bank last night. But the "available credit" was way off. It should have been $601, but it was showing $412. I called in last night, and was on hold for 47 minutes, and none ever answered so I hung up, called back, and today saw the charges posted. Im fuming right now.

I seriously think Im gonna close this card. I think its absolutely CRAP that I can't see my online "pending charges" Their website is LAME!!! If I was able to see the pending charges, I could have called much sooner.

I know Im speaking angrily, but I always thought it was odd that I couldnt see "pending charges" on their site. I told them today, thats unacceptable!!!! But, I still, never heard from them at all, not one peep, CSR or Fraud dept. never contacted me, een when they suspected it, and temporarily put a hold on my acct, at least thats what the rep told me. That puts a bad taste in my mouth about having a CC with them. $1CL doesnt make or break me at all...I think not being able to see pending charges online is grounds enough to close the card. UGH!!!

They usually are not worth stealing. There is that whole limited use hurdle.

I understand your frustration. I knew some people sometime back that bought counterfeit cards. Just hold tight. People buy lists of card numbers and imprint new cards so that explains the swipes. Your card info was on the lists.

The users swipe away until the original card holder catches on and then they stop.

Just fill out the paperwork and get your replacement card. You'll be ok.

I would wait. Somewhere you used your card could have been compromised. A fraud alert could be a pain in the future if it was just one issue.

No you don't need to do any of that. I know it's frustrating but please don't overreact. If you enough credit cards, in time you will have more fraudulent charges. It's the nature of the beast and something that we unfortunately have to put up You have no liability thankfully and other than waiting for new card, in the end, it's just a minor inconvenience. Be thankful you don't have Chase cards. They get used fraudulently all the time or so it seems. They don't have any of your private info so you can sleep well tonight.

What they have depends on the source. Fraudulent charges on a cc are not necessarily a sign of a big issue. Be on the lookout for accounts appearing on your CR, that is much more dangerous. Best practice for identity theft would involve NOT using existing credit cards, as this alerts the victim to a problem, just silently create the accounts and use them. But not all theives follow best practice, and if they can make money selling cloned cards, hard to resist!

I agree with Irish. Take this for what it is: basically an inconvenience. Freezing reports and fraud alerts to me are just over the top in this situation.

Thanks Irish I still feel like Im gonna be Pissed about this a week from now. Mostly because their website is LAME, and I cant see pending charges, if I could I would have known immediately and called in. I tried last night when I saw my "available credit" was way off, but the last charges were mine from the 8th!

And then, atfer NOT receiving any phone calls, emails, nothing from them, and the way I treated on the phone.....Im pretty sure Im closing it. Im super pissed...

I check my major CC's online twice a day, morning, and evening. Im always on top of it.

Freeze is a good idea, if nothing else it will help your gardening goal.
