Looking for a new primary CC to replace Costco AMEX.

Hi all,

Currently use Costco AMEX as my primary CC, put almost every expense on it. Since this card is about to be obsolete, I'm looking for a new card to use everyday. Anybody have any good suggestions? Current FICO on AMEX statement is 823.

Call Am Ex, they probably have another preapproved card waiting for you. They gave me a BCE. I would also just hang tight and see what both Citibank and Am Ex offer you early next year. Your scores are high. You'll be fine.

You are a shoe in. Take whatever preselected card you can get from Amex. Should keep the other open until Citi takes over. Then you can get one with them?

If your scores are that high I would prefer you list your monthly spend and categories....there are far better cards to use at costco, eg right now fidelity, and when it becomes visa, a card that earns more than 1%. Pair that with the executive membership and you are golden.

No different than myself using my Doublecash at Sams paired with the 2% from the plus membership. It beats the sams club MC by 1%.

But if you are rich and have tons of spend and time, then you will be fine either way.....

Costco TE has 3% gas, 2% dining and travel, and 1% everything else. So there's definitely plenty of cards out there that match or exceed that reward structure. Are you looking for another AMEX? Do you need something you can use at Costco in the future (Visa)? Are those the categories you spend the most in or do you spend more in other categories?

What's this I hear, they're phasing out TE? I didn't particularly care for the card when I had, but it would be nice if Costco took something other than cash so I can maximize earnings. Does anyone know what they'll be accepting/are accepting now? Been a couple of months since I've been to a warehouse.

I am an exec member (sams plus member too)... I am able to use a debit card or Amex at costco. Next year will be debit or Visa credit.

Beginning next April, Costco will only accept Visa credit cards in their warehouses. Any Visa credit card wil be accepted, but the cobranded card will be issued by Citi.

You won't have to app. All current TE cardholders will automatically get a Citi Costco Visa.

Most of my expenses are on gas and groceries. I travel about 400 miles per week for work so I burn through the gas, also spend about $150 a week on groceries. A card that gets me the most cash back in those 2 categories would be ideal. Other than that my biggest category would be dining. I very rarely travel, haven't been on a vacation in 2 years

BCP might actually be worth the AF for you, with that much grocery spend. However, that's assuming you do your grocery spend at supermarkets, as opposed to Costco.

Correct. AMEX has not yet agreed to sell the portfolio to Citi. If so, the above would be true. If AMEX retains the portfolio, you would have to apply if you wanted a new Costco cobranded card; AMEX would PC the existing cardholders to another AMEX product.
