If she has zero income how exactly does she plan on paying her credit card bill? If she has no income then truthfully $0 should go in the income box which I imagine would lead to a denial.

My girlfriend is looking for a good CB card and is considering the Citi DoubleCash. Here's the thing though; she is a student so she is not making any income at the moment. Would this prevent her from getting a Citi DC? Do they offer DC's to students? She's worked a few years and uses credit cards, just needs an alternate to her Amex...how is Citi when it comes to low/no income? What would she put in the income box of her app?

I just don't see it happening with no income, unfortunately. It is certainly possible to get their cards as a student though as long as there is income that can be proven. I picked up 3 of my Citi cards during my last 2 years in college, but I had well established income and history with an employer I had been with since I was 16 in high school.

If you really want her to have a DC, you'll probably need to get one yourself and add her as an AU. I believe there is a minimum age of 21 before she can include other income available to her (household).

I hope this doesn't turn into a debate about whats ethical or not.

Do your parents pay your credit card bill? Or help out? If so, it is completely legal to use their household income. It even states list all sources of income available to you, and that would be theirs if they are helping you pay the bill. Citi is also pretty good about students, at least they used to be with their forward card. Not sure of their exact student offerings.

If her scores are good, then I would go for it. Otherwise she may have to go somewhere that accepts a joint application.

Is she getting financial aid or things like that to help pay her bills? If so she can use that. And if she's 21, she can use household income as well. I never understood why 21 year olds can use their parents income but not college kids who's parents are most likely paying the bills
