I tried the chat function with citi to see what my options were to pc my citi aa card which I hardly ever use nowadays, especially since my barclays aviator seems to be better in every way, higher cl, no ftf , and has retention bonus of 1000 dollar spent= 5000 miles. I applied for my citi aa last december so is it true i am not eligible to pc till next year ?

I was thinking of trying to pc it to an double cash card but i am not too thrilled about paying an AF on an card i hardly ever use for the slight chance of being able to pc it do doublecash. Trying to figure out what are my best options for that card.

Just my experience but I tried about a year or so ago to change a Hilton Citi to the DC when it first came out and was told NO on co-branded cards so I had to apply for the DC, that was my experience but YMMV.....hope they do let you PC though that would be awesome!

edit sp.

If you're looking for a tradeline placeholder, you can PC to the AA Bronze. No AF. But very bad/limited benefits if you still plan to use it in any way. For me, it's just one of my oldest cards so I kept it as a Bronze

EDIT: also, try to speak to retention. Citi is great with retention, and you may get something like $95 credit after $95 spend, and $1000 spend = 1000 bonus points (essentially 2x miles per dollar up to 1000 dollars).

I had to wait a year to PC my Citi AA Platinum Select WEMC. I had several options available to me, but I already had some of them like the Dividend, Hilton HHonors Visa Signature, and Double Cash. I ended up selecting the TY Preferred just to keep the account open until I figure out what I want to do with it and since it has a low interest rate. The AA card is definitely PC-able, however, I can attest to the 1 year requirement. I did have to call back a month later to reverse the AF though. It did not refund automatically.

I did want to have an longer temr 2% cashback card when the discover IT offer expires next year. For right now in my eyes barclays aviator > Citi AA so i probably will keep Barclay's if i ever need to accrue AA miles. It doesn't really matter that much to me since most of my spending is probably going on EDP + combo of Premeir/CSP , so i can spilit up my points just in case if one of the programs loses an lot of value.
