Amex APR reduced UPDATE: lowered more

I had heard that people were successful in getting their purchase APR reduced on their Amex cards and I just had mine reduced. I applied with a targeted offer that offered me the lowest advertised rate, 15.24% and today, about a month after I was approved, I was succesful in getting it reduced through chat to 12.24% (Prime+9%). Nice to see that Amex is very flexible with APR, I wonder how much lower it can go. Does anyone have experience getting theirs any lower?

It's been a month so I tried again and had it lowered to 10.24% (Prime+6.99%). Didn't think it would be possible. Also requested a CLI to $34.5k which resulted in a 7-10 message, so I didn't get everything I wanted today. What's the lowest APR you can get with Amex?

I was at 15,99% I asked and they lowered it to 11,24%.

I am right there with you at 10.24% APR on my BCE.

Just lowered mine from prime+7.99 (11.24) to prime+3.99 (7.24)

Now I don't need that Barclay's Ring I was thinking about.

wow nice job all.. Guessing since their rewards are meh, they are competiting with the APR% now... Have had two cards lowered, might try another round of lower in a month.

It would be useful to list the cards where people for the lowered APR. Anyone able to get the APR reduced lower than the "lowest possible" aka what's advertised?

For example I tried to lower my APR lowered on my Amex BCE, but they said it's already at it's lowest at 12.99

They can definitely lower cards below the lowest advertised rate. rserla has 10.24% on their BCE, I started with the lowest advertised (15.24%) on my Gold Delta, a day or so after getting the card I had it lowered by 3%, then by another 2% today so it's at 10.24% as well.

Yeah I think the minimum is a month or so, but it can't hurt to ask earlier.

OK I'll bite .

With Amex's anecdotal distaste for their consumers carrying balances (at least more than other lenders) why worry about APR here? Out of your portfolio this probably isn't the card you want to be doing that one as a general rule.

What is the chat conversation like?

For me, I asked the rep (via chat) if there was any APR promotion or if I could lower my APR or go on a 12 months 0%. They inform me that I was already at my lowest possible. And that was the end of that...

I just asked if it was possible to lower my purchase APR over chat and they checked to see if they could. It's possible that your account isn't eligible, but try again just asking for the APR reduction, the chat reps sometimes seem to not really know what they're doing.

I was able to get my Delta Gold lowered from 19.24 to 17.24. I mostly did it because not applying for new cards is boring... DW's NFCU account should be eligible for an APR next month too now that I think about it...

I was just able to get my purchase APR lowered on my BCP card via chat!! Unfortunately, I've been denied multiple times on previous attempts. My Amex BCP card started with a 17.24% APR, which was the lowest APR advertised when I applied.

"We are changing your standard APR for Purchases from a rate of Prime+10.99%, which is currently 14.24% to a rate of Prime+7.99%, which is currently 11.24%."

Nice tip, here. I love using chat for things like this. I got my SPG lowered to 9.24% from 10.74%.

Thinking of updating to BCP, and holding off on Sallie Mae until October 2017. Will ask for apr reduction when 0% runs out.
