I have two Capital One cards - Platinum from 2000 and QS from April 2015. I really like the QS and was going to merge the Platinum into QS. Well, I just realized that after my 0% promo ends in January that my APR will be 22.9% - which is unacceptable. I love the QS and PIF it every month, so really not a big deal, however if I merge and suddenly have $22k CL, I might need to carry a balance some day and that is not gonna happen. My current Platinum is 15.9% APR. My other major cards - Barclay Ring is 8%; BJ Perks Comenity MC is 13.9; Discover is 10.9% and PSECU is 9.9%. So, I called the 800 number and spoke to a rep about this situation and told him I'd like to merge the cards but not at 22.9% after the 0% promo ends in Feb. 2016. The answer was no, can't be done. He looked to see if I could PC the Platinum, answer was no. So, I asked if there is anyone else he can transfer me to that can recon and again he said no.

Does anyone know of a number I can call where they really can review and help me out here? It's not like I have to keep the Platinum which is in the SD, but it's not doing me any good in SD and merging into a lower APR QS would be really nice.

Capital one just isnt big on lowering APRs so unfortunately you are unlikely to have success. They wont "switch" the APRs no matter who you call. Not trying to be too blunt, just honest. Dont want you to waste your time with something that basically isnt going to happen.

To me, your only hope is going to be getting the Platinum PC'd to a QS because they will not switch the APRs or anything like that. Some people have success getting PCs, others are told no. Seems to be little rhyme or reason to it.

As far as AAOA, I'm not sure I'd say it's "vital" in this case. Even if the old account were closed, it would be a full ten years before it fell off and impacted anything, and OP's newer accounts will be a decade older. Plus, AAOA is only 15% of one's score; it's not like it's half or something!

The EO number listed in the thread won't actually work any more. You need a PIN. To get it, you have to email the EO first (google capital one CEO) and they will call you back with a PIN etc. Calling the number alone won't work. They shut it off due to many people calling over trivial requests (however yours actually IMO has merit).
