AMEX Delta issue

So I need to buy a ticket to London on Delta but with my measly $1000 limit I am unable to use my Delta AMEX. I tried for the credit limit increase through the online portal but was not successful. Has anyone ever been successful in getting AMEX to increase your credit line by calling and explaining to them that a ticket you need cost more than the limit on the card?

@Anonymous. If you did not get approved online they will not do it. Its not like you will save so much putting it on a Delta Card anyway. 20% off items when on the plane is about it. 2points per dollar in skymiles. Which if the ticket cost $1500. it would only net 3000 skymiles. Sorry but Amex has A boner for people that get 1k and 2k limits. Takes long time to get increase. My brother got his card last november and still at 1k. I got mine last october @3500 and now at 20k. You can put cash and miles if you got the bonus for signing up which should get you ticket and put partial on it. unless that is your only option is to use Delta. Sorry op. Good luck.

Have you tried, check spending ability. Go online and click on credit management. You'll see it there.

Very funny my fico. You can. Put it on a card. . Op just does not have enough limit. At least on delta. Hopefully they have other high limit cards.

Spending ability has nothing do with a revolver. Which delta is. You hard limit is your maximum spend. Be it 1k or 20k. That's for charge cards. Like green gold or plat. Although you can play with it. It will n very go beyond you hard limit. They tried already for increase and was denied.

All credit cards from amex has flexible spending limit.

Yes. All are flexible. But there revolvers only allow a little over hard limit. Try 500 over and see what happens. Pls report the results back then let you s know.

I do agree that in a $1K card that they aren't going to go way over that amount

Don't try spending limit too many times or you'll be calling amex next.

I have that problem also, I have a delta card x 3 years now with a 1000 dollar limit, I have request a CLI for the past 3 years. no do, I even called them and explained how difficult it was to purchase even 1 ticket on the card much less 6. I put the 4,800 for delta on my chase united card (with 22,000) credit line.

They say its because of the public record on my account that was there when they approved me 3 years ago. It is 6 years old, paid and due to fall off this year.

They are ridiculous!!!!!!

You can but i think the limit is only 10% over the balance due. So if you have say a balance of $100. you can pre pay $110. Thats it. I will not really let you over pay by too much. Not too many options for op as i stated those 1k limits are killers. In this case maybe apply for another card. but when amex gives the 1k there is generally something in the profile that is holding them back from being so generous.

I have a 1400 limit Delta Platinum. It's been 3 months and not getting a CLI. After many attempts, got a chat person to spill the beans..

This was his reply "Sir, while your spending patterns, payments and annual income are above par, the card has not completed 6 months. Please try again in March 2016 (Mine was opened in Sept 15).

It appears to me that Amex does not trust newcomers without subjecting them to 6 months of torture, hardship and frustration !

Do you have to buy a round trip ticket?

What if you buy one way US to London, charge that to the Delta account, the charge goes from Pending to Completed in a few days, then you post the payment, pull via AMEX from your bank. Two-three days later the payment clears.

As soon as your $1k limit returns:

Go online to purchase the return ticket, London to US. Charge to the card, it goes from Pending to Completed, post the payment.

This way you get the 2 SM per $1 of spend, which is one of the major points of having the card in the first place. You also quickly show AMEX that you need to fully utilize this limit, and that they should pay attention to give you an auto CLI.
