Need advice for chase credit limit increase.

So I have a chase sapphire preferred. It has been my main card for a while.

Should I

1) ask chase to increase CL to a high number, like $30k and see what's the max they'll give me?

2) or should I say a low number like $21k? And have a high chance of approval?

what is the suggested method?

I banked with Chase and have had their cards for a while. Chase is not generous with CLI as they are with initial CL (though it's not like they're generous with initial CL in anyways) but if your profile warrant it they will grant it. Yes, they will counter, from my experience.

I just asked for a CLI on my citi double cash card recently.

is it alright if I call chase and ask for a CLI on the chase card?

Ask for all your Chase cards if you like CSP, Freedom and Amazon

You are only asking for $30k and the CSP is already at $18k? Why not a $40k ask?

What is your total Chase exposure including Palladium.

Depending on your income, overall profile and how long you've had CSP, you can request $30K. Now, if you feel ballsy, ask for $40K!

If you are already at $18k, it implies you have a fairly high income already. Since you don't know what Chase will reply with, asking for more than you think puts the answer in their court. As noted earlier, Chase does the HP on your file, looks at your overall profile, income level, then makes a decision. One advantage to asking for a higher number is, you know if they counteroffer a lower number, that counteroffer is the max you got, the max you could have expected. You don't know that number until after the ask, and at that point it's kind of too late to raise the ask.

If you have the Palladium on your future goals, you have larger CL in your goals also.

The $41k total exposure is a factor they will consider in the account review. Asking for $40k on the CSP means your total exposure would go from $41k to $63k, which for some income levels is entirely possible. But none of us knows what your total file looks like, only vague indications of what might be possible.

I just called and and I was afraid 40k request was too high so I requested 35k

she said "it's instantly approved for 35k"

i should have asked for more ><

but 18k to 35k. Not bad

I was going to say, if you're taking a HP anyway, why not apply for another Chase card, like SW or Marriott, and just move the CL as you please.

I had $22.5k in Chase exposure and asked for a $10k CLI on my freedom and they countered at $8k. Stupid. Not even a month later I apply for both the SW Plus and Premier and they give me $16k EACH.

Keep in mind that if the credit limit is much over $40K, FICO excludes the card from utilization.
