Hm, I wonder if just a bank statement would work? I'm self-employed, recently moved, my name's not on the bills, I have no CCs yet, and I even have e-statements from my bank, but I can switch that to paper so I have something with my name and address on it.

Apparently it's pretty common for CC applicants to have to verify their address. How do you do this?

Last week I applied for a Citi card, and was asked to verify my address with a copy of a utility bill. However I live with family friends and just moved here, so I have no bills. I called them, but they didnt understand for some reason. So I faxed them a copy of my credit card bill, bank statement and a pay stub all with my address information on it and called the next day. I guess it worked cause the card went through and was approved.

Hope this helps

you can usually avoid having to verify address if you just make sure your credit reports are up to date with your current address.

if the address you put on application does not match your credit report, that's when banks want prove of who you are and where you live, etc.

My current address is on the credit report, but it's listed as my old address. That's because I asked for my free annual credit reports to be mailed to a different address, one I never lived at. Do you think I could ask the credit bureaus to remove that address? How would I go about that?

Well, we had that addy-goof happen on our CRs, too. EQ and EX both thought that our previous addy was our current addy (and had our current addy as a "previous" addy). Also, DH, because of his cruddy handwriting (HE can't even read it most days!!), his middle initial was wrong on some CR entries, too.

It all somehow managed to "fix" itself, though, when we sent the Pre-HIPAA dispute CMRRR to all three CRAs. Within a month, the addies were fixed and his CRs reflected the correct middle initial! Go figger.

I dunno if that's how it's S'POSED to work ... I just know that it did!!

Having a previous address showing current and the current address showing as past isn't a big deal since it often gets swapped around. The fact that your current address is on your reports is usually good enough to satisfy most creditors even if it says past.
Message Edited by Miner on 10-27-2008 10:54 AM
