Certain lenders such as chase do have these rankings/categories for people and assume they bend over a bit more for them. I would assume Amex would have this as well... Although this CSR could of been full of it. To get this I assume it is if you have a Private banker or a certain amount with bank or alot of spending with them, etc.. No clue what qualifies someone for "special" treatment.

All of the issuers have internal designations to segment accounts based on many factors, such as spend. High Value is a very commonly used status but most reps are trained to say you are a valued customer even if you really aren't. So even if you're super low value, they won't tell you. One way to ascertain your status is ask to close, frontline reps can usually just immediately cancel without any offers or transfers but more valuable accounts get offers. This isn't always an indicator, especially if you already received a retention offer. Another method is if you are sent to more escalated/senior reps in the US when you call or are usually transferred because the rep can't access/service your account, this is usually an indication that you are a valuable account. Of course this example doesn't apply to certain cards that always get enhanced reps by default like Citi Prestige or CSP.

If you possess certain card products like Citi Prestige or CSP, your accounts are flagged and usually sent to the enhanced reps. Some products come with specialized status by virtue of having the card, others are earned via high spend and profitability. The idea was to keep the explanation simplified and narrow to cards. No clue what qualifies someone for "special" treatment.

I have no Private Banker or a large investible assets held in a bank or brokerage firm.

He mentioned that I was noted in their system as a "high value cardmember." Has anyone heard of this or are any Amex members aware if they have the same notation? Or is this a line of crap from Amex.

OP, do you think you would be regarded as a High Value Customer to AMEX? Is there a reason they would tell you that? You know your habits better than anyone, and it is quite possible that your spend pattern may lean toward using your AMEX and less to other cards you may have?

What is your CL for example. How much of that CL do you use monthly? What is your payment pattern? Look at it from the bank's perspective and see if there are any of your habits that might be valued by AMEX.

Never thought of myself as a "high value customer." So I was suprised when the CSR mentioned this to me.

I have been a cardmember for a while and had several premium cards. At a certain time charge volume was above average.
