Wait for it .. BBVA AMEX Closed After Complaint !!!!

Somebody on here warned me about this and to whoever you are: I AM SO SORRY I DID NOT LISTEN!!!!!!

Approved for BBVA AMEX NBA card 11/3 for $5,000. Score at time was 660 EXP FICO 8. Been using my card since, even did 2 BT to the card: One for $755 fro Credit One and one for $1,000 to a CU VISA. The Credit One is showing as PENDING on my BBVA account now, as they alreasy cashed the check. I noted that a second inquiry randomly popped up on 11/4, so I requested they remove it, since they did the approval with the INQ from 11/3 -- they denied it ever being done, so I had to file a complaint with their ESCALATION team. FINALLY got the call from an escaltion rep today, who informed me she was going to remove the 2nd INQ if I sent in a dispute letter via email. That was at 1pm. I come home to use the card online -- DECLINED. Sure enough I see "THIS CARD IS BLOCKED". Heart sank.

Called my Exec Rep back, of course she is gone -- sent an email too marked URGENT. I am stunned!!! I called in, account CLOSED and will get letter in 7-10 days!!!! NOTHING has changed on my CR, in fact only for the better. Scores up 10-15pts since approval. This HAS TO BE related to my complaint which was processed today, and 1 hour after I spoke with the Exec Rep, the card is closed!?? She did mention that she had to contact the Bankcard Review team to get the INQ removed, I am assuming they did the closure.. I saw this EXACT issue happened to others back in spring but did not see resolutions to all of the psots, though saw some were re-opened after BBB complaints or speaking ot Exec Rresolutions....

Card has yet to report to any CRAs, balance is only $431, with the $755 BT pending...the AWFUL "Supervisor" in customer care said they will not honor those BTs!!! Which menas my other banks will bounce those checks ?!! This is a MESS!!!!! The next supervisor said they WILL honor the one that is already pending, but not the other. I am almost on the verge of tears and have no idea what to do, as this is derialing all my hard work. I should have heeded the warnings. Does ANYONE have experience with this happening?? Please please help and give me whatever insigght you may have here ... this is so ridiculous! Thank you in advance all... this is truly upsetting.

Sorry to read of troubles. I wish I had a fix for your issue. There are those times as they say "leave well enough alone".

1 inquiry really isn't a big deal when looking at the entire profile.

There are other fish in the sea. You'll catch plenty of them as time goes on.

All I can say is... Wow. Well, some people were warned about their recent experiences but I haven't seen anything like this specific scenario. Then again, I only use the card for transactions and no BTs.

The initial issue for some were the fraud alert settings that sometimes were not fully removed at activation. Others were flagged for questionable activities, but we're dealing with BBVA here and hopefully your issue is isolated.

Not sure if there was a misunderstanding or gap in communication but good luck undoing that mess.

Best of luck and hopefully it was a mis-communication between the person you spoke with earlier about inquiry removal and the closure.. I wish you all the luck and hopefully you hear back from her tomorrow and she/he isn't gone for the holidays.

FinStar: I do have Frauds Alerts, and i'm wondering if upon manual review today when the Exec Specialist called over this made something close it out??

Other than that I truly beleive it is retailiation for my complaint. I will wait to hear back from my Exec Rep, but have a pre-typed complaint all ready for the CFPB / BBB, as I see many others have had success with BBVA for almost this exact issue and gotten reinstated or items removed from the CRAs. At the very least I will request NO INFO reported to the big 3 -- this account has literally been opened 3 weeks!

I find it very odd that one hour after I speak with the BBVA EXEC REP, the account is closed!! They must have been spooked or angered by my complaint. I am so upset and confused as to how those BT will be handled as I got 2 different answers -- this is unbelievable! I mean, will those checks they sent the other 2 banks bounce? ? Making it look like a returned payment on my end ?! A MESS I tell you !!! I'm doing all I can not to lose it.

So sorry op. I can't say how many times ive heard issues with this card. I know some are problem free but wow. I hope you get it worked out. This is a lender you should not call and talk to too much. ooh geez and forget a complaint. I just don't get it. wow.

edit. Losing it will serve no one any good. Just keep your composure and try and talk to them nicely and see if it was a mistake. Maybe a rep hit the wrong button after your call and hit close.

I would like to think that rep did not do it on purpose. Any way. Fingers crossed for you.

@Anonymous has changed? In your "LOL @ Discover" thread (four days ago) you said you opened several other accounts this month. That's a pretty big change in the eyes of most creditors.

Only one has reported to the bureaus and I checked all 3 - no softs at all from BBVA. In fact no softs at all in over 2 weeks. Also, the bureau they pulled for my approval on 11/3 has only climbed in score and such.

I do remember when you got this card and being congratulated and warned. i remember you referring to the warning as being a downer. You were right to feel like they were being a downer, but it was just a friendly heads up because BBVA is beyond weird. There are obviously people who are happy with them and have no complaints, but there are way too may threads of horror stories for this bank to have isolated incidents

This bank is famous for handing out cards like candy and cancelling them due to identity issues. For this reason I would never attempt to do business with them, Sure the card sounds great, but i'd hate to be using the card with a cloud of random cancellation constantly looming. Sorry to hear they did this to you, And I hope you reach some sort of resolution, but with these guys who knows. Anyhow just remember, not all advice is meant to be a downer even though it may come across that way sometimes. Good Luck!!!

Thank you for the kind words. My main concern now is really the balance transfers. I don't want my other banks to bounce those BT checks and look at me as the bad guy. One of them has already posted the BT check and it is pending on my BBVA card. No idea what to think or do. If they reopen great, but my main concern is my credit -- showing a balance on a closed card!

I WILL not let this rest until it's resolved.

Even a balance on closed card is no big deal. They still have to honor terms as if card was open. Minimum payments and same apr rate applies until paid in full. You did the bt before the card was closed. Don't worry. They will pay it regardless of account being closed.

The jerk supervisor said they wouldn't honor them since the card was closed. I will flip.

But your words make me a bit happier. I just don't want other lenders to see a balance on a closed card and start getting spooked. I wrote a full letter to the executive requesting either the reopening of the card or the non reporting and or removal of ALL information regarding this account from the CRA

That is crazy. Wildcard bank for sure. When Bank of America closed my visa with a balance on it, the terms of the balance transfers 0 apr are still intact and it had not affected me getting other cards.

Thank you !! That is good to hear as well. Their customer care is horrendous as it is. Maybe it's a blessing in disguise. We will find out more tomorrow when I hear back from the executive specialist.

Exactly as dd says. The terms stay the same or you can open a whole can of whipazz thru the cfpb. Just let it ride. I'm not sure about getting the account re opened honestly. But I Believe baller or b335 had their account re opened successfully after contacting cfpb

Thank you guys -- this is all helpful and making me feel better. As I said I have a long letter pre-ready for the CPFB tomorrow if this is not resolved in one way or another immediately. These banks are insane, and treat the consumer terribly when it comes to these issues. It may very well be the whole "identity cancellation" issue -- wont know until tomorrow.

As long as they honor the BT they have already sent and allow me to make payments Im good. AND I will fight to not have this account reported

IMHO

Something is going on in your CR's or is UTL high?

BBVA = closed

Discover= wanted a co-applicant and didn't you close this card due to you couldn't get a CLI?

This may have also add to BBVA closing since the Discover card was only opened 2 weeks and in reviewing your CR's they may think Discover closed....

Some lenders tend to follow suit of other lenders once red flags go up........word to the wise

BofA= recon

I think you should review your CR's with a fine tooth comb

One more word to the wise ....think you better go sit on your hands.....no apps and no CLI's for awhile = GC
