Does anyone have any experience with UFCU (University Federal Credit Union) in Austin? i have a few questions.

I filed BK in 4/2015. discharged 8/2015. opened account with UFCU in 4/2015. opened a shared secured loan with them. my last payment is in 2 days. i am wanting to apply with credit with them. I was told by a loan officer there that they pull from Experian which is my best score as of now (611). do you know what kind of scores they look for? looking for either a LOC or a CC. i am really wanting to refinance my car loan with them but i think i am going to hold off on that for another 3 months or so. any input? suggestions?

I don't have experience with BK but I got my first card with them.

They used to pull EQ and looked for a mid-600 scor for good credit. I don't know for sure their current credit critieria but they are a very nice CU.

I'm in Austin and 2 years post BK I applied for credit with them and was flat out denied because of the BK. I went with RBFCU and they approved me for my 3rd credit card post BK. RBFCU also offers secured cards if this is something that you are interested in. With your BK being that recent it will be a little difficult to get any unsecured cards but YMMV. This year I was approved for a $7k signature loan and last week my card went from $4k to $14k. If you join, treat them well and they will return the favor.

Congratulations! Indeed its a start! Now establish a good payment history, keep your utilization low, and watch your scores grow. Also keep in mind that every time you request an increase with them it is a hard pull which you can use to apply for another loans within 30 days.

Should i use the card a lot and PIF couple days before statement cuts? Or barely use it at all?

I used mine for a balance transfer and didn't use it much after so it is up to you. That being said, using the card a lot and PIF will show them that you are being responsible with your credit, especially after BK.

Yeah I have a total credit card that has a 200 balance on it. I want to close it out and be done with that card. I might BT the amount and close it. Thanks for your help

Wow, you've had much more success with RBFCU than I have. Maybe because I'm only 1 year post BK, but after 3 app tries in the past 6 months, I've only managed one $500 limit Rewards MC with them.

I'm in the process of moving all my banking to Security Service Federal. And just found out today my Houston CU, First Community Credit Union is a shared branch of SSFCU,NASA and SDFCU. So 4 of my CUs are linked. Makes deposits and withdrawals a breeze!!

TBH they will work with BK, but don't like it to be TOO recent. they're pretty conservative overall. a great CU, but conservative.

I've had great experiences with Austin Telco FCU. They gave me a $2500 CL when my highest at the time was $1750. I've been meaning start accounts with RBFCU and UFCU.
