Targeted Opt-Out?

Is there any way I can opt out of mailed offers from Capital One (and State Farm, for that matter) without opting out of offers from all other banks and insurance companies?

Is there a way I can opt out of insurance offers but not credit offers?

AFAIK, optoutprescreen.com is an all-or-nothing choice, and I don't know of any other tools.

I know there are other ways I can get card offers, like in emails from hotel and airline companies. Those are fine.

There was a post a few months back that was in Smorgasboard that dealt with the same issue... check out post #3 specifically. I'm not sure if the OP actually got resolution, but it could be a start.

I've followed the links, but it looks like they lead to information intended for existing Capital One customers who want to opt out of certain further marketing. I have never been a Capital One customer.

Darn... I was hoping there would be something there.

A lot of people seem to have one lender (varying from person to person) that just bombards them with offers. Some people report that with Discover and Barclaycard.

Capital One has been that lender for me, sending offers as soon as my existing cards made those Cap1 offers uninteresting. When my only card was a $600 Freedom, I got Platinum Classic offers (I think that was the name. $0 AF year one, $19 AF second year, no rewards). Of course, with a rewards-and-no-AF Freedom, I didn't want it.

Once I got Discover and PRG, I started getting offers for QS1. Didn't want it.

With Sallie Mae came offers for QS...and with other travel cards in the last year came VentureOne and BuyPower offers.

And, of course, Cap1 soft pulls me more than Amex, Chase, Barclaycard, Citi, and Discover...combined!

Something that worked for a family member was to just not open, cross of their name and address and write on the outside of the envelope return to sender and take me off your mailing list.

I believe you can opt-out by contacting each lender specifically.
