I tried for an upgrade on my Bloomingdale's card to a Bloomingdale's Visa. Both use the same creditors. They will run a hard-pull, mine was EX, and there is no guarantee you'll get it. I have a 5.4k limit and have probably spent at least 12k there this year and paid in full, but I was still declined. When I reconned, I was basically told that b/c I am in grad school and have too many student loans that are being deferred, I was being declined.

It took 2 weeks and 2 'verify address' phone calls before I was approved and another 4 weeks before I finally received the Visa (I got it today). I know people with 700+ who were turned down for the Visa, they're not as easy to get as they used to be. If you already have a store card, that's a big plus. Just remember they are separate credit cards, not just an upgrade, and (according to a Macy's credit supervisor) it will require a separate hard pull.

It is two accounts - one plastic card. It reports as two accounts on you CBR's and they are completely separate.

It never was easy to get the Macy's Visa. It is not a factor of the current economic climate. Very few will be able to get this card. Personally I don't want one. It pays to diversify!

I was in the 690s when I requested an upgrade -- and was denied. Like others have said, it's the slowest process ever. There's a thread about my saga on here somewhere.

The Macy's Visa is, for some reason, very definitely NOT an easy card to get, from everything I've heard. A (very) few people get invited to upgrade, but the majority of regular store card holders don't get invited, and if they want to upgrade, they need to apply, hard pull and all. And it sounds like not that many get approved.

I did get a letter from Macy's a couple of months ago about "your Macy's Visa, blah blah blah" - they were actually talking about my storecard, so had me confused for a minute there. I called them and they confirmed that all references to Visa were a mistake - oh well, I thought for a while there they'd upgraded me without me even knowing.

Entirely apropos of nothing, my mother-in-law has the Elite Star Rewards Visa (she bought us dinner a while back and I saw that was what she was paying with) - I am amazed anyone can manage to spend enough at Macy's to have one of those, I can't even see myself getting to Gold 'level'!

I will make gold this year - it's not that hard. Plantinum or Elite - that is hard! When you've spend enouth $'s to move up you can call them and ask for a new card. Otherwise they will send it out at the end of the year.

All you need for the gold card is to charge $500 in a calender year. Platinum is $1000, Elite is $2500 (buy a couch). The color doesn't have anything to do with your credit line, just what you spend. And if you qualify for a rewards upgrade, you can get the new card at any time. And the upgrade applies to either the store card or the Visa. Your score looks good enough, have you applied for the Visa?

Nope - I'd take it if they "invited" me to upgrade - but I'm not going to apply otherwise. I'm happy with the CLIs my store card gives me, plus the beneficial effect on my mix of credit... I don't need another Visa, particularly not one with a store-card interest rate. I know what it takes to reach the different levels - my saying I'm unlikely to ever reach Gold, let alone the others, is an, erm, testament to how rarely I shop at Macy's! (Although I do LOVE the kitchen/cooking range they stock there, and could spend a fortune buying furnishings and stuff there, if I'd let myself do it!) And actually, on second thoughts, I *do* know how the m-i-l reached "Elite" (*cough*designer purses*cough*) - my occasional purchase from the Clinique counter is never going to get me there!

Like I said though, if they invited me to upgrade, I'm sure I would accept! I'm not sure what triggers those (apparently rare) invites - length of time you've been a cardholder, amount you spend there, maybe? Anyone have any ideas?

If you are trying to not only increase your card status, but also your limit, keep calling customer service =) I started out with a CL of $1,500.00 on my Bloomie's last year in November. I used it at Christmas time quite a bit and then paid most of it off. I then gave them a call in February, (around my B.day) and said I was looking to buy a nice watch for myself and would love to put it on my card, but didn't have the limit I needed. The upped me to $2,200.00. In May, I got them to up it to 3,400.00 b/c I think I was shopping for Mother's Day and then in Sept. I got it up to 5,400.00 b/c I needed some clothes for school. If you use it regularly and they see that your spending is increasing with them, they will keep raising it for you. You can request a credit limit increase every three months, once they did a soft pull, but normally they just look at my spending pattern. What I think happened is that with the 1.5k limit, once i spent 1.5k in the store, I was eligible for a larger limit. I easily spent 2.2k and they upped me again, etc., etc. Lol, I'm gonna be ballsy and ask them to get me up to 10k by the end of the year when I do my christmas shopping again. And while i was doing all this, they upgraded my card to ultimate premier at my request as well.

They are great with the CLIs, definitely! They keep upping mine even though I DON'T use it regularly. True, last CLI I got (hm, next one due next month, hooray!), I went out and hit the cosmetics counters the next day, but I hadn't even used the card ONCE in the 90 days between that and the previous CLI. I LOVE their CLI generosity - and Macy's, I promise it will all pay off in the end next year when it's time to take advantage of that lovely CL at last and splurge on some furniture and lovely bedding! (Oh, and my favorite - the cookware department!)

Lol. Seriously. I remain a loyal customer b/c they are helping me w/ my credit. I choose them over Saks, Nordstrums, and Neiman b/c I have my account w/ them and they are generous with it. I try to go in at least once a month and make a large purchase. I redeem all my points from other credit cards for gift cards there as well lol.

When I was in college, I had a Burdines card that automatically switched over to Macy's. Just last year I moved up to Platinum level. I didn't call in or anything , they just sent me the card. I have yet to meet anyone who has the actual Macy's CC. I would like to apply but I don't want to take the hit right now.

their glis are great. Got $300 3 months later upped to 600 auto after pif $10 purchase. Last month(7th) they upped it to 1200 on request even tho no new purchases
