Amusing Chase AARP moment...

Had a funny moment I thought some of you would get a kick out of! Over the weekend, my girlfriend and I went out for dinner with her parents. The check comes, so both her father and I race to pull out our wallets and start politely fighting over who's taking care of the bill... and he starts cracking up when he realizes we've both pulled out Chase AARP cards! He made fun of me for a bit ("I'm over 70, what's your excuse for carrying around an old fart card?") and we ended up bonding (while my girlfriend rolled her eyes) about the 3% cashback at restaurants

That's the gameplan, so here's hoping! I mean, I wasn't specifically looking to bond with him over what we've got in our wallets, but every little bit helps.

Good story. My father has had the AARP card (travel version) for years. He loves it and gets a chuckle when I will mine out.

I just use mine last night to take my GF's parents out to dinner.

Despite my best efforts, he got the bill! Apparently I need to be craftier and faster on the draw to get him to let me pay.

Amen. I tried my best, but he wouldn't budge, bonus spend be damned, since he said he was pretty sure I could meet the spend without him. A lucky problem to have, for sure--I'm looking forward to the day when I succesfully connive to cover the bill (he's insistent, so it will probably involve cornering the waitress in advance). Take them to a nice steakhouse, order a nice bottle of red and for icing on top, order desserts at the very end. Oh, don't forget to splurge on the appetizers then wait for the bill to come out. Trust me...he's going to look at you and say...hey, remember all those time? lol.

and I love my aarp card too.

Amex's travel partners are a better fit for the trips I'm looking to take in the next couple of years. Plus with Amex I have the potential to retain my MR on a no-AF card in the future if I decide the PRG isn't worth it. I was considering the CSP for a little while, but ultimately (no pun intended) I can maximize rewards more effectively right now by focusing on MR.
