AMEX PLATINUM 100K POINTS QUESTION

Looking to apply for my first Amex Product and was considering th AMEX Plat, because of the travel benefits that would suit me well. At the moment they offer 40K sign up bonus and after reading posts saw that a few months back they where offering 100K sign up points.

My Question is?

Was the Amex Plat 100K sign up bonus a once in a lifetime thing or is it a offer that comes around every once in a while. I am in no urgent need and would be willing to wait and see if the 100K offer comes around again.

I did an online chat with the rep at amex.com and was told that the offer was no longer available.

According to some it periodically becomes public, but not very often. Sometimes people get lucky by using the "Card Match" tool to get targeted for the 100k offer.

100k offers are never intentionally made public, but in a few rare cases people figure out ways to make them available through a glitch in Amex's systems or via a 3rd party website.

Generally speaking those are reserved for potential customers that Amex sees as high value.

I was just approved for the AMEX Platinum for Mercedes Benz yesterday, and my husband applied for the AMEX PRG and was approved yesterday too. We both got the 50k sign up bonus for each card. We did a card match for him on card match and he was offered a 60k MR point sign up bonus for the regular Platinum. I specifically went for the Mercedes Benz Platinum, so it does not matter to me, but that kind of shows you that there are offers out there that are greater than the 40k bonus offer being advertised on the AMEX website. When I go to Americanexpress.com and click on the link for personal cards. I get an offer of 50K points for the gold card, but the PLAT Card is only 40K points. Strange to me considering the PLAT card is the one I want.

They're usually targeted and/or limited time offers. They are once in a lifetime in that with AmEx you can only get a sign on bonus for a given product once.

How is that strange? AmEx doesn't set the standard offers based on what one specific person wants.

The Mercedes Benz Platinum has a standing 50K offer but its AF is slightly higher. It has some MB-specific benefits but includes all of the standard Platinum benefits and features. You won't find the MB, Ameriprise or Morgan Stanley Platinum on AmEx's site but you can easily find them by Googling. There are no eligibility requirements to apply for the MB Platinum but there are requirements for the Ameriprise Platinum and Morgan Stanley Platinum.

The 100K offer is still floating around in its targeted form. My wife received her 100K offer last Monday. She has NO AMEX cards yet. I've read that you're likely to get the targeted 100K Plat offer if you have no other AMEX cards. I plan on applying for that and the Old Blue Cash tomorrow to combine HPs and get our $1k bonus and start some MS on the OBC.

There are also targeted offers for other cards out there.

In addition to the 100k platinum offer, I received quite a few 75k offers for the PRG before I added my first Amex.

From what I've heard, there have been 150k offers for the platinum as well. It required a very high level of spend which is out of reach of most people.
