Capital One Platinum just PC'd frustration/confusion

I don't post hardly at all, but I have been diligently reading the posts here for months on end. Very good advice from you all; so thank you!

I've had the Platinum card fo, oooh, I don't know, about 4-5 years(when Cap One took over HSBC accts). I was rebuilding then. I've never asked for a CLI..ever. I started at $300 and graduated to $2250 this past May. $59 annual fee was really bothering me.

I just got off with live chat and was PC'd to the Quicksilver ONE. They won't waive the annual fee...which they said will remain at $59. But the Quicksilver One annual fee is $39! Do I have any chance of getting them down the $20 when I get my card in the mail?

The other random frustration is I honestly thought I would have been offered the Quicksilver MINUS the "One". I have no bad marks on my credit..no lates, no nothing. I'm due for my annual free credit report in 2 weeks or so. But my Discover TU Fico is 791. My FAKO's are at 774 and 775(I know they don't count for anything).

With your scores, Id hit up the Cap one prequal and if shows Venture or QS..take it. Then combine 6 months from now into a new QS, and drop the old acct. But thats me...You don't have high scores like yours with tons of baddies, so Im assuming you can get better cards. Have you tried to get better cards?

I'm not an expert of this whole pc thing but have you tried their prequal site and see if the regualr QS card comes up. If it does I would get that and in six months combine the QS1 to the regular QS.

Pizza; I've tried the special offers, custumoize my card section..never shows anything...which I thought was odd.

I have no "baddies", no lates, no nothing. Just a super thin file with 1 inquiry in the last year..that was Discover in March.

Think I'm more frustrated with the $20 increase in the annual fee than what the website states for the Quicksilver One.

I was thinking of applying for maybe one card this year. I just haven't narrowed it down to what yet lol.

My first New Year's goals were to try to get annual fees waived and PCs. I have an ancient BofA AK Air Signature Visa that was great when I lived in Alaska...haven't lived there in over 5 years; card is useless to me with a $75 annual fee and no perks for me to take advantage of anymore!

I couldn't PC to the Quick Silver Visa siggy until my credit line was over $5k. I tried at $4250, through the EO and was denied both the $750 CLI and the PC. I waited some months until I hit the luv bottom and went to $5250, then made a phone call and was promptly PC'd to the QS VS. This was from Journey to QS, however, which opened within 6 months of my platinum. After that I combined my Platinum, QS 1 (old HSBC card) to my QS.

no, I mean go to the Cap1 site, (dont sign in), click on the CC tab, and youll see 'Check for preapproved offers". Fill in your info and hit submit and see what pops back. What other cards do you have? AAOA?

I actually did try that..no sign in and was recommended for the QS One..this was about a month or so ago.

To be honest, I'd rather explore other CC options than get a 2nd Cap One.

I have the Cap One at $2250, Discover at $9000(opened 3/15) and a BofA Alaska Air Sig Visa sitting at $500 since 2006...if you can believe that!

AAOA is 5 years, 2 months.

If I haven't mentioned..I HEART Discover!

You don't have to be at 5K to PC to the no annual fee card. I was only @ $2300 when I PC'd from platinum to the no AF QuickSilver. I can't get them to upgrade my quicksilver one, though.

The point here, that is getting missed, is that you do not PC to a signature card Visa until you meet 5k CL. Not gonna happen. Yes, you do have some work to do and you'll get there.

I feel like I am singing the same song every night for people who can't understand why their PC's go to QS1 and not the VISA Sig. 5000....Five THOUSAND....FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS. Get to the 5k limit, then request your PC.

It's also clear to me that some folks don't understand the parlance of these cards.

I'd call in and try to get the AF waived for a year. CapOne is typically very good about that. After 6 months or so with the QS1, request a CLI and then see if you can PC to a regular QS with no fee. It shouldn't be a problem. Either way, I'd definitely call about waiving the fee for a year.

I don't think OP is worried whether or not his Platinum is PC'd to a Visa Siggy... Cap1's Platinum is a MC so I'm not even sure it can be PC'd to a Visa at all! Could be mistaking here, but their concern is with the annual fee.

When I PC'd from platinum to Quicksilver (minus the one, hehe), they sent me a quicksilver mastercard, w/ no annual fee. To get the QS Visa (Sig or not), you'd have to cold app, I'm pretty sure.

i was told via chat that if you have a mastercard brand, they cannot pc your mastercard product to a visa product. on mc products pc to other mc products, and visa products pc to other visa products. if you have a mc, you would have to cold apply for vsa product unless you get an offer on the pre-qual.

I understand very well; but thanks for the clarification. I never mentioned anything about PCing to a VISA SIG. I acftually have one with BofA. Nothing to get excited about...no singing to me is necessary

iMonger; YES, that is exactly what i was confused about...the annual fee being $39 on the QS1, yet the chat agent said it would remain at $59. Guess I will deal with it when the card comes.

Still bugs me that you're having a hard time with this, especially considering that not only do you have a higher credit score than me, but have a longer credit history with cap1 than I do. The only advice I can think of to give is that there is a list of "Backdoor" numbers posted in the credit card applications forum. I suggest going higher up in the ladder and talking to them about the situation. You might get better results talking to someone other than a csr who can only do what their screen tells them to do.

Pizza1 is right, you can apply and get a better card with a higher limit. However, out of principal I would contact their EO and request a change to a no fee QS or QS1 at the minimum.

No worries, Fortjay. I do appreciate your advice. I'm not overly concerned.

I will look into the backdoor number though, and see what they offer.

Just another reason to love my Discover card even more!!
