Requested Barclay CLI, cost me an HP

Every time I do something without checking here first I regret it. I have had a Barclay Hawaiian Airlines card for a few months, decided to try for a CLI thinking they would do SP like Capital One does, got a 10 day message and immediately got an alert from CK that I had a HP on Transunion. Wouldnt have even tried if I knew what I know now.

Next time just tap the knowledge of the forum, lol.

Hopefully you get the CLI and don't waste the HP. Keep us updated on if it gets approved or not.

Well, it's one of those lessons learned OP. Maybe you'll get a decent CLI if approved?

In the future call the other UW number which can at least see if your account has any SP CLI offers available before pulling the trigger. Good luck either way!

Weird its not setup like the barclay rewards, atleast that warns you very clearly its a hard pull

Out of 27 inquiries on my TU, 13 are Barclay's. They HP me everytime I have asked for a CLI. I have learned my lesson!

To add insult to injury, they then hold it against you that you had hard pulls.

I have an Arrival and a Sallie Mae, and don't use either much. I've never gotten an auto-CLI or asked for a HP one.

I've seen enough reports of Barclaycard giving auto-CLIs to bigger spenders (with good credit) that I don't think I'll ever ask Barclaycard for a HP one.

I interpret not getting one automatically as a signal that I wouldn't get much of one if I asked. Besides, I like having moderate CLs on them so there's room to add another card with Barclaycard.

I feel you, except I use my Sallie Mae a ton. Despite all these auto-CLI stories here, I haven't gotten anything from them. Sad life man.

The hint is in the different wording. Barclays says that they're going to pull your credit. CapOne says it should have no effect. Oh well, live and learn.

For some reason going through the Hawaiian Card portal when you request a CLI it does not disclose that they will pull your credit, doesnt say anything at all which going forward I will take as they will likely pull it. For now on I will just work on CLI with NFCU (where they are generous), Cap One and AMEX. Not too jumpy about HPs as I have established a lot of credit in the past year but I am trying to put together a 6-10 month period of no new HPs because I am gettting a new Car this summer/fall.

Despite the tendency towards aversion to HP's around here, HP's are a relatively small factor and their effect tapers and falls of relatively quickly. That said, impact can vary by credit profile and those with thin/poor credit profiles can see a bigger impact. HP's for CLI's and apps don't bother me but a single HP doesn't have much impact on my credit profile. If you get cited for HP's as a denial reason it's really "too many HP's for your credit profile". The HP's aren't really the problem -- it's other bigger issues with your credit profile.

Certainly read up on anything before taking action. If you're going to assume with CLI requests then assume an HP.

It's not about generosity, stinginess, love, etc. One's credit profile and income are compared to the creditor/product's underwriting criteria to determine what one qualifies for. Some creditors/products do have easier criteria than others but that's not generosity. It's all about risk assessment.

A lot of us have gotten the Omg, they pulled my credit for a CLI. I always ask now, always. I hope that you get the increase.
