NFCU Eliminates ALL Foreign Transaction Fees

I was browsing their website earlier and noticed on the home page of NFCU on the bottom right there is an snippet that states Navy Federal has eliminated all foreign transaction fees for all new and current cardholders! I've never travelled abroad but imagine for all the active duty military account holders that has to be a godsend. I don't think they charged those fees for purchases made at the commisary or AAFES locations abroad but it's still welcome news for those "around town" purchases.

This is great! I travel for fun once or twice a year, and can definitely take advantage of this. Of course now I have less incentive to keep applying for the Flagship Rewards card...

I'm going to Ireland in April and will take the Cash Rewards card with me. With the pin maybe I can use it at an ATM to pick up Euros instead of having to deal with currency exchanges. I have a $5K cash advance line and NFCU does not charge fees for cash advances, unlike most cards. I'll probably bring my CSP and AMEX gold, just in case...

Commisary and AAFES are US purchases, regardless of what card you use. They are processed their their headquaters in the states, not through a local CC company.

This is excellent, and kind of shocking that they have not sent out emails or any other form of notification. I am very happy about and I am sure many other members will be as well!

This is great to hear! While I haven't traveled overseas in a few years, this will definitely be a welcomed change by those who do.

Just a thought... I wonder if USAA's change over from MasterCard to Visa, with new accounts also no longer having a FTF, has anything to do with it? Competition can be a good thing!

Before NFCU Cash Rewards and a couple others had foreign transaction fees, but now no more.Free to Shop the WorldIt's that simple.

We've eliminated foreign transaction fees on every Navy Federal credit card for new and existing cardholders.

This change especially with Cash Rewards puts them almost equal to PEN FED Defender cards (small differences like Cash Advance Fees) and some future USAA changes...nice work NFCU

Aside from the fact that the defender card requires you to be military, even if you are already a PenFed member.

I love this change to get rid of all FTFs! Now to decide if I can finally axe my Quicksilver to get rid of my paltry limit and 21% APR!
