New Wells Fargo Propel Amex has launched

Hi everyone,

I had read a post here a short while ago about a new WF Propel Amex possibly coming out, and it looks like it has indeed launched.

For a Wells Fargo credit card offering, it isn't bad. It seems about on par with the run-of-the-mill 1-2-3 offerings that many banks are offering (BOA Cash Rewards and Amex Plenti, for example). It's still a bit boring though, like most WF cards are, as there are other cards out there that offer higher rewards for those same categories. Also, it seems to lack a sign up bonus, which is definitely a let-down. Still, if WF would let me, I would gladly PC my extremely boring 1% rewards WF Platinum Visa to this card (although I doubt they would allow it, since it would involve a PC from a Visa to an Amex). One way I could see this card being extremely useful, however, is as a future downgrade option to people who apply for the Propel Amex World card, which has a very lucrative bonus. Of course, PCing with WF is like pulling teeth so I might wait to see how other people have success with this first.

P.S. I am sorry if this has already been posted. I didn't see a thread officially announcing its launch.

I believe folks already talked about this one already since this version is the non-AF one (vs. the other two). IIRC, only a couple of approvals were posted somewhere.

LOL. I switched mine from the old Propel 365 (AF version) to the Propel World back in Nov. A much better choice, as far as WF products go.

Is this not the exact same card as the propel 365, except with no annual fee (as opposed to the 365's $45 fee)

Thanks for mentioning this new offering; while I agree it's not 'game-changing', at least Wells Fargo is moving in the right direction.

Hopefully someday they'll decide to seriously get 'in the game' and come out with some lucrative offerings! Until then, I'll continue to say 'no thanks' whenever one of their tellers or CSRs offers to "help" me with a new application.

According to the terms and conditions disclosure PDF, after the 0% promo intro period, "your APR will be 12.40% to 26.24%, based on your creditworthiness. This APR will vary with the market based on the U.S. Prime Rate."

APR is still a little too high for my liking (even at the lowest-possible rate), plus they have the whole range thing going on there where a person could potentially be approved for the high double digits...even if I wasn't still gardening, I think I would probably pass on this one...

I saw this on their website a couple days ago and consider downgrading my Propel 365 to this in May. Not sure if they will let me or I will have to apply for it and close the other one, but I'll ask. The Propel 365 does not have FTF whereas the Propel does and also the points will expire after 3 years. The Propel 365 also has a special Amex Connect website where you can get discounts on hotels, car rentals, and cruises. Not that great compared to what priceline offers, so I never use it. Definitely not worth $45 a year now that my spend on the card will decrease.

Stingy lending practices coupled with being a relationship bank make this card a poor choice for most people on here.

I terminated all my banking with Wells Fargo last year because of their poor customer service, and treating me like a criminal.

Just tried to PC my old 1% cash back visa to this in branch but they wouldn't let me. Seemed like a long shot anyway since the Propel is an Amex.

Too bad, it actually seems like a pretty decent card.

Nah, I was looking to switch banks for a while, Wells Fargo provided the final push.

To make a long story short, they wouldn't let me withdraw $5k out of my account, because they didn't think I was me. They accused me of signing my name differently than when I opened the account, and didn't want to give me the money.

I drove up to the branch by my house, withdrew my money with people who knew who I was, and closed my accounts.
