@Anonymous wrote:
I don't believe there's a "fault".

The rules are placed there and you're made well aware of it with the disclosures. I've tried reading all the highlights (eg cut off times) and you know the customer falls asleep; seriously.

I give them the materials and they'd give it back, or they would take it and when they don't think I'm looking, dump it in the trash.

The point is, when I hear people complain, a lot of times, I just inside laugh a little. I mean, danged if you do, danged if you don't.

In this case, OP, I wonder if you have a checking account with them.

Generally speaking, and the rep may not be aware of this, if you have a checking account and you've never had a late before--they can waive either the late fee or the interest charge, not both. If your interest charge is only $8, and the residue of it is probably roughly that or less (next month, this is something that's hard for customers to understand when I explain about cut off dates and due dates).

And you weren't charged a late fee? Most likely they waived the late fee (usually $25 or $35).

And that's rare if you don't have a checking account. If you don't have that but just cc, a lot of times the system won't let you reverse fees.

Chase is a relationship bank more than anything.

If you have checking, you can waive one, not both.

But there are times the system may allow you to.

The level just depends on the relationship.

All of this of course, is purely a "privilege" and not "right".

It's not my time or worth, to ask for the refund of $8 plus residue repeatedly. If the bank was at wrong, even if it's .01 I will ask for it to be reversed because principal; but if I'm wrong, what principal?

I never said principal that was some other post. Also, I was unaware of a disclosure about the cutoff time until I went to pay online on the actual due date, since its not mentioned in the statement itself and I usually pay via billpay etc and not directly via their website. They didn't waive any late fee because they are not entitled to a late fee to begin with. I had made a substantial payment like two weeks before the due date and this extra $300 was just a payment to make the payment a PIF vs a partial payment of the balance. I don't have a checking account with chase and any contact with them is via mail not someone handing me something. Others have talked about how its silly to contact EO about this and I never said I was going to contact EO nor would I bother doing so in this situation. I never claimed I had a right to a refund, but being I never had this situation before and they have done this for others in the same situation I am simply disappointed with the outcome.

Called in on an issue I posted about before with my CS card. I had paid the vast majority of my balance well before due date (paid like $920 or something). I had about $280 or so left to pay and I made the mistake of paying $300 online on the due date, but because it was pasty 8pm est the payment was not processed untilt he following day. I ended up being charged $8.29 in interest. I have had this card for a couple of years and always PIF. Never carry a balance. I called up and the CSR told me that the computer wouldn't let her credit me the interest payment back. Given the amount of money I put through my various Chase cards every single month for a prolonged period of time I am a bit shocked here. In addition I am being told I will be hit with a few hours more interest that it took the payment to clear in the next month's cycle. Really disappointed with Chase, since they can see if scheduled the payment on the due date but because of their cutoff times it wasn't credited until after due date. Sadly if I had just called in they would have credited it the same day but I did not know about that option at the time. So much for getting the benefit of the doubt from them.

That's not really surprising to me. Just last week someone posted an article on here that was confessions of a Chase CSR. She basically said that "non profit" customer's are customer's that always PIF and never carry a balance, and these customers have zero chance of ever getting any fee or charges waived. I assume most people on these forums are what chase classifies as "non-profit" customer's. Just goes to show you how greedy the financial world is.

This is not a fail on Chase's part. Own up to your actions. Yes, they could have reversed it out of goodwill but they are not obligated to do so and you are not entitled to it. Be aware of the payment deadlines and get your payments in on time. You can schedule payments in advance and/or use autopay if they would be of benefit to you. It's a small hit, chalk it up as a learning experience.

I would take this as a lesson learned, it wasn't Chase's fault and yes they do credit people back. However she said the computer wouldn't let her do it. I would just suck it up and take it in stride. Next time just be very careful with the payment dates. On the second screen of the payment page it ask you to verify payment information including payment date, just make sure you look at this to be absolutely sure of the date.

I fail to see how this is anybody elses fault other then your own?

I didn't say it was their fault. I said I made a mistake by not making a payment by the time deadline even though I paid on the due date.

Y'all need to back off, this is becoming a running theme and getting real old real fast. OP has admitted culpability. Do yall want a first born child as retribution?

OP I get what you're saying. Thankfully we're only talking about a couple bucks here. You know better now and it only cost you $8

Just not trying to call the bank's refusal to forgive the consequences of that culpability a "fail" would suffice.
