Used my AMEX MR Points for a First Class Suite on Singapore

I just got back recently from a great trip to Singapore, Tokyo and South Africa.

I used some of my Amex MR points for a First Class Suite on Singapore Air from LA--Tokyo--Singapore.

I think this is one of the best values you can get for your MR/UR/Citi points if you accumulate enough and want to travel to Asia or other spots around teh world.

I was able to get a saver award redemption which is not always easy to find but they do have them. For my roundtrip ticket from LA to Tokyo/Singapore it was 187K Singapore Points. If you have ever flown first or business on any other carriers this is by far the best product in commerical flights. Ive heard Emirates is similar but never flown with them.

If you wanted to purchase this ticket it can cost anywhere form 14K to 20K so at 187K Points your getting a value of around $0.08 to $0.11 per point.

Food was amazing, they keep the Dom flowing the whole way and the service was as good as it gets. The bed in the suites is like an actual bed with a mattress and you have alot of privacy, very comfortable. I ended sleaping for 8 hours of the LA to Tokyo flight.

They only have the suites available on 2 routes that fly the A380, LA to Sigapore via Tokyo and New York to Frankfurt.

If you have points to burn I highly recommend using them on Singapore.

I am planning on doing the same thing with my ur Mr and typ ,but only have 55k ur,105k Mr, and 70k typ plan is to send them all to sq.am waiting for Singapore airlines to fly direct from jfk to Singapore .

Right now I am about to hop on asiana business to bkk that I was able to get with ur points from csp +ink plus sign up not too shabby

One thing I found out you can do with Singapore is book multiple waitlist dates for saver awards. Technically your supposed to have enough mileage in your account at the time of requesting the bookings for each one but when I called I was actually able to book a standard award on a certain date and then waitlist 2 other dates. While getting closer to my actual trip date one of the waitlist dates opened up for a saver award and I was able to cancel my standard booking and confirm my waitliste date. There was a small penatly of around $50 US for the cancellation.

This is bad redemption. 165,998 MR is $995.98 statement credit (almost a cash back). Statement credit is also one of the worst redemption option.

While on waitlist, you can call Singapore and ask an agent to put a "chaser" on your waitlisted flight. They can expedite you clearing the waitlist. I've had good luck on having an agent clear a first class seat (that I was giving to a relative) about four months out from the departure date just by calling and asking. Singapore is one of my favorite airlines and am glad you had such a great experience. I haven't had the chance to experience their first class suites, yet, but is definitely on my wishlist for a trip sometime soon.

The way to get the most "value" for your points is to pick out the most outrageously overpriced thing you can find that you don't even want or would never have paid for out of your own pocket. Then for that given item, find the highest price you can get on the web and quote that as your cents per points. Beats the statement credit value every time. I don't know why everyone doesn't do this. Oh wait a minute...

The thing is that 1st class flight is not affordable. Points are affordable. Points are extremely cheap to get. For example, to get 50k MR points you need to spend $1000 per three month. Citi DC will give you $20 cash back on $1000 spent. So, first class flight will cost you $80. Why not? Economy will cost you something like 1200 I think.

And no, you are not correct. The quoted example does not beat the statement credit value.

You will loose $80 if put spendings on AmEx instead of Citi DC. Actually $40, because AmEx have 1 point back per dollar spent.

My point is that you do not have to spent $1000. You spent it in any case.

You will loose $80 if put it on AmEx instead of Citi DC. Actually $40, because AmEx have 1 point back per dollar spent.
