Turns out that the second CSR I spoke to, who told me I could PC my Amex Jet Blue card into ED or BC card, was just scamming me. All he did was hoodwink me into putting in an application, and my application was declined.

I was just advised by an American Express customer service rep that on March 21st

Amex JetBlue cardholders will have their cards replaced by either a Barclays JetBlue

Rewards Mastercard or a Barclays JetBlue Business Mastercard.

He had no information on whether Amex JetBlue cardholders will also be

offered another Amex card.

I was told the same thing by c/s rep. I was also told that before the transfer to Barclay's occurs, I could convert my Jet Blue card to another Amex credit card product, e.g., Everyday or Blue Cash. I am thinking about converting to an Everyday, but I don't really use MR points as much as Citi TY (these are awesome for AA at 1.6 cents per point) and Chase UR, so I may just ride it out.

What I wonder about is this: if I were to PC my Amex card beforehand, would I be shut out of the Barclays card?

Update: 1/17/06 11:14 AM I went on chat with CSR & was told I can't PC the card into another Amex card

Update: 1/17/06 11:37 AM I decided to call customer service, and they offered to PC to Everyday, Blue, & Blue Cash (And did it, I think; at the end of the call they called it a "request" and said I'd hear from them in 7 to 10 business days, so I don't really know if it's a done deal or not)

Wonderful news and a wonderful thread -- thank you so much!!! Also an interesting data point was the PC to another Amex card. I got the Amex Jet Blue card around the end of Jan 2015 and it's my 3rd real Amex and last backdated Amex. I think I'll change to the Amex ED card then, as I don't think Barclays really likes me..lol. They did give me a good card with a good rate, but never a CLI and it was opened 8/2014. Good to know I have till March, thanks again!!!

Well I don't know for sure what the CSR did. He assured me that it wouldn't be a new account, it would just be a continuation of the existing account, and that there wouldn't be a hard pull. But then he said I would find out if my "request" is granted in 7 to 10 business days. That sounded an awful lot like an application for a new account to me. I checked the application status page, and sure enough it's showing up there as an application. So I hope this guy didn't just pull a fast one on me.

Typically, when an account is bought out by or transferred to another bank, the age of the account remains unchanged. My CSP is dated to 1991. CSP didn't even exist then. It was originally issued by FirstUSA. A few bank buy-outs later, I landed with Chase, who issued me a basic Chase Visa. Then it became Gold, then Platinum. Eventually wihtout asking it became a CS, which I then converted to CSP. It still reports as a 1991 account.

I've definitely been waiting for this update, so thank you for bringing it to light!

I have two burning questions: if we're getting new cards that are now issued by Barclays and the account age remains intact, does this still report report as a new account on our credit reports or does it just effectively "swap out" the Amex account? Also, would the credit lines remain intact as well, or would that be within Barclays purview to issue their own credit limit? Anyone with experience regarding this?

I'm not a huge fan of Barclays and have closed two card accounts with them, so i'd really prefer to keep my account on Amex. My dilemma is that I love flying JetBlue and do so a lot, and that card just makes sense for me to have. Decisions, decisions.

I appreciate the input/insight!

I just requested it through frontline CSR. They said they cannot PC it. I escalated to a Supervisor, they said I'm welcome to apply for a new card, but cannot PC the B6 card. She then said the portfolios will all be transferred to Barclays. I'll probably make another attempt, but if I cannot PC it will most likely just close the account.

I received a letter from Amex dated 1/15/2016. I confirms that my JetBlue Amex will automatically convert to a JetBlue Rewards Mastercard with Barclays Bank on March 21, 2016. The Amex JB card can be used up until that date. The letter cryptically states: "If your Card account status changes before March 18, 2016, your account may not be transferred to Barclaycard. In that case we will contact you with additional details." Possibly this means some customers will receive targeted offers to stay with Amex with a different product? Possibly it simply means no transfer will occur if you default on the Amex account. It's not very clear.

Unexpectedly, the new Barclaycard account will have a new number. The letter states I will will receive "additional communications from Barclaycard about your new JetBlue Rewards MasterCard in the next few weeks."

An outline of various Amex memberships benefits is included with the letter, all of which benefits will be affected, i.e., terminated, by the transition.
