Took me 10 years plus opening a checking/savings account with Discover to finally get an increase to $10k on my Miles card. Marriot Premier approved at $13.5k from the start and Amex from $4k to $23.3k in about 8 months. Discover didn't like me for a while I guess.

What do I need to do to get credit limit increases for my Citi AAdvantage, Discover IT Miles, or American Express Delta Gold? I've had them all for at least 6 months or longer. I received a $500 increase from Discover about one month after opening, but nothing after that. I have not had any other inquiries since opening them and nothing else. I tried the 61 day CLI from Amex and did not get it. I pay in full and never carry a balance. Scores are in the 750s. Approximately 7 inquiries on TU and EQ. 9 on EX. AAoA is 3 years.

What reasons are they listing for the denial? As far as citi goes....who knows. I had to use my card heavily for 5 months to get a small 1400 increase (and believe me I am happy I got that). I suggest calling in and talking to a rep. Be polite, and say you like to keep utilization down. That the increase isn't life or death but you would feel more comfortable using it more if it had one. I always had my SP increases denied online, but the phone was the trick.

Have you done any HP CLI requests with citi?

Discover is easy. If you use the card heavily, even carry a balance, they are going to give u a cli usually. Around every 60-90 days. We got our card up from 4-5k in a matter of months up to 18k with similar scores and profile to yours.

Bank of america seems to like you. Love that you have a BBR. I had a decent reduction in util by wasting a HP with care credit, I asked for a CLI of 25k and they countered. You may want to do the same some day. Also with BOA you could be working on APR reductions and CLIs with them too. BOA is known for huge limits.

Also your barclay rewards you may be able to phone in and get a SP CLI. There are a few methods floating around here that may be of use. If the rep says there are no offers you will probably have to HUCA.

Everything is updated that I can see. No Derogatories, Late payments, etc. I have 0% utilization. Income not including my wife's income ~ $73K. The newest accounts are the ones referenced in this thread (Citi, Amex, Discover). They are over six months old and I haven't applied for anything since then (and don't intend to). I was thinking that either I would need more income to justify CLIs at this point or let the inquiries age for longer.

I can't begin to guess what the underwriters have in mind, your credit profile plays a role, how the UW department of each card sees your credit profile plays another. There is no hard and fast solution for low limits. Time helps, but there are some accounts I've had for a year that haven't budged. if too many inquiries is the reason, then lay low for about year and don't apply for anything more. If they think you have too many inquiries already, applying for more cards won't help. In fact you may be asking for adverse action.

I'm letting the inquiries age so I won't be initiating anymore HPs at this point. My newest account is 7 months now. My oldest account is 5 years and 2 months. They aren't listed in order of age. However Citi, Amex, and Discover were the three newest ones.

Believe it or not, 6 months isn't enough time. What I will tell you is to use the said cards alot, pay more than the minimum amount due, don't amass alot of inquiries etc.. There is no trick to getting these banks to like you but responsible use.

With Citi, they seem to want more poeple to get the AA card based on what I saw this past week on a flight to DC. The Air Hostesses were aggresively taking applications and kept going on and on about how special the card was like every 20 minutes (Ridiculous if you ask me).

So do the right things with Citi especially and they will give you an increase in no time.

$500 from Discover after 1 month, count yourself lucky. Took me over a year to get $250.

Took me 10 years plus opening a checking/savings account with Discover to finally get an increase to $10k on my Miles card. Marriot Premier approved at $13.5k from the start and Amex from $4k to $23.3k in about 8 months. Discover didn't like me for a while I guess.
