Finally closed Credit One

I know I should have done this a long time ago, but I just closed my Credit One account. I kept it open as long as I could before the next ridiculous annual fee hit in March.

Boy.. they do not like to take no for an answer. The "account specialist" tried to convince me 4 times to keep the damn thing. He wanted me to keep it until March since I already paid for it. They offered to lower the interest to 18% Then he asked me to let them personally look into my creditworthiness and call back in a month so that they could come up with the best offer for me.

I told him 4 times that there was nothing they could do to keep me before he finally gave up. Definitely the most uncomfortable CS experience I've ever had.

Good luck.

The awful retention offers + very thick accents make it pretty unenjoyable. They're just hoping you'll cave and keep the card and forget to cancel before the next AF hits.

Good for you, and good riddance to Credit One.

In situations like that, when I'm asked why I want to cancel my account, my response is, "The main reason right now is that you make things that should be easy into a hassle."

When they ask, "What do you mean?" I say, "What we're doing right now. I should be able to close my account online or at the very least in two minutes on the phone with you."

If they keep trying (which, of course, they do), I tell them, "You're making it less and less likely that I'll ever do business with your company again. You should stop while there's still a little bit of good will here."

I closed mine about couple of months ago and went through the same thing!
Talking to them it felt like they picked up the phone in a basement!

I wish I had thought of this. I'm very non-confrontational, but even I got seriously annoyed the third time he tried to swindle me.

Hubby will be going through the same thing in April/May. I've already warned him about the whole pitch trying to get him to stay. His orders are to say 'I want to close my account' and keep repeating it. Lol

I closed my card the end of December before the first annual fee hit and it was the best Christmas ever!! They were just a rebuild card nothing more

Closed mine today as well. Meant to do it a month ago.

CreditOne is officially CreditGone.

I only had to repeat myself twice. It was really no more difficult than any other "closure" that required a phone call instead of being able to be process online. There is no phone tree option for closure though, which is simultaneously annoying and unsuprising.

Advice to others: If you are waiting until you AF time period to close, but otherwise have built up other decent trade lines ..... Just call them and close it a few months early. In case they have trouble getting it right, but also to be done with them that much quicker. Assuming it was paid up front, your AF is a "sunk cost", you may was well move along with your life.

BallBounces - our annual fee is due September that's why we will be closing it in April/May in case there is an issue. Just waiting until it hits 6 months

As squirrelly as Credit One is about how they charge interest and fees, my advice is to keep checking your account online even after you close the account. I mean, check it for a couple of months.

Totally understand and good idea planning ahead. If you have added some legitimiate cards already, I still wouldn't wait.
