Amazon Store Card now getting 5% back

Just wondering if anyone knows what's up with Amazon Store card...I have the store card and was not getting the 5% back when I opened it because I am not the Prime member, my husband is, and the account is in my name. Which we unfortunately found out after a painful phone call to customer service. So we weren't really using the card, just buying a 50 cent giftcard each month. All of a sudden last month we noticed that I am now getting the 5% Prime statement credit on my account. This card is now useful to me because none of our other cards right now are beating that deal. Has this happened to anyone else? I'm not complaining just confused.

That's great news!

Perhaps with the change to 'family' accounts (with both adults having access to each other's payment methods) they now allow a person's Prime benefits to apply to the other person's credit account?

It would make sense, and does make converting old 'grandfathered' accounts to the new 'family' account less painful.

I share my Amazon Prime account with my mom under household and with my DH and both of them receive the 5%back on their cards have been for about a year now. I don't know if it's supposed to happen like that but my DH always says it asks him to upgrade to his own Prime account although that negates the household feature.

I have prime and only receiving %3

Edit I have the rewards card not store card..Thus %3 versus %5

I have the same Prime setup you have (myself and two others), and I plan on keeping it as long as I can, but that's different from what they call "Amazon Household".

Last summer Amazon changed the offering; what they call "Amazon Household" is only for the Prime member and one adult. Also, that other adult will have access to your payment methods, and vice versa.

I can no longer change the people on my Prime unless I change over to 'Household'... I can't even change the two who are already there (I used to be able to add up to four).

This is the message I get when I navigate to the screen:

Hopefully they won't force an "upgrade" anytime soon.

For the time being, it's nice to know that any existing additional people on a Prime membership are covered under the 5% discount when they use an Amazon store card.

Always carefully reearch the cards you're considering. The Amazon Store card's page does state that the cardholder must be an Eligible Amazon Prime Member for 5% and defines what an Eligible Amazon Prime Member means. Always read the terms and ask questions first if needed.

Excellent advice! I love my Amazon Store card! I was a Prime member for a while before I apped for it and have loved it!

When I received the Amazon store card in mid 2015, I was hoping it would see the connection and give 5% on my store card purchases. After monthly purchases every single period, I have concluded it does not. Last night we converted to the household membership with me as second adult. If what I am reading from others here is true, that should initiate the 5% discount for me. (We don't have any others we need to share with, so Household should be perfect - now Prime videos can more easily be watched by either account for example).

Ah, so the folks on the 'old' Prime setup who have a Amazon store card don't get the 5% cash back unless they are the primary. My two 'secondaries' don't have a store card, so we never had to be concerned with this, but it's interesting (and good) to know. For a die-hard Amazon shopper, it certainly gives some motivation to opt for a separate Prime account!

I'm glad the Household setup will work well for you; I think for two people living together - especially with children - it's probably the best setup anyway. And if you were never getting the 5% discount before (and assuming you will now) that definitely makes it worth it.

Ok I don't know what I have but I just checked that prime screen that you show in your screenshot and my moms not there, my sister is and my DH shows never accepted invitation. I know 1000% though neither of them have a prime account, I'm the only person in my house that does but doesn't have an Amazon card I'm Au on my moms Amazon Visa, but both of them when I just had them signed in show they have Prime 5% Amazon Prime on their store cards. My kindle library does show shared with my mom but not DH, not sure how they are tying it in but I do know they both got statement credits since they've had the cards. That's a bit blurry but from both on their online accounts for the cards

Yeah, that is definitely how it has worked for us. I am not sure how my spouse got identified originally as the prime Prime. But the fact that they were, and the card was in my name alone, means we lost out (until the recent switch to Household we hope). I was close to orderign my own prime account (then going through the trouble of cancelling the other, etc etc. This should be a lot easier.
